Should law abiding citizens have guns in America or should we trust the government officials to protect us? Can the police arrive in time to stop catastrophes like San Bernardino, the Paris attacks and Sandy Hook, or should citizens be allowed to protect themselves with firearms wherever they go? “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people” is the slogan of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Some people believe it is unsafe to allow citizens the right to have guns in public but, Texas has changed their state law to allow open carry. This will be an example to watch how the citizens respond to this new law. Will they have gun fights instead of fist fights or will they stop a terrorist? What if the teachers at Sandy Hook had guns and fought back? Paris has strict gun control. Even if one person in the Paris crowd had a gun, they could have held off the attackers until the police arrived and possibly reduced the number of casualties. In San Bernardino, the situation was similar. No one had a gun to protect themselves and they were hopeless. All these examples, occurred in gun free zones. Historically, attacks happen in places where there are the strictest gun control laws and in gun free zones. Gun free zones are a terrorist’s best friend. Some people say, in today’s world of security, criminals could never get away with having guns. However criminals will always find a way to get access to guns. Even if someone does not pass a background check they can assemble an assault rifle. How can they do this you ask? Good question, they can purchase a Ghost Gun or an AR-15. A Ghost Gun is available to anyone! That’s right a terrorist, criminal or anyone else who can purchase and assemble an AR-15. Not to mention, this weapon has no serial number, no background check, and the government does not know the guns exist or where they are! Needless to say, the terrorist will have guns.
