Locations labeled as gun free zones are dangerous and should be avoided when possible. When gun-free zones are in place, legal owners of guns must leave at home or surrender their guns. Gun violence in America among legal gun owners is statistically insignificant. The fact is that most gun violence is committed by criminals who carry their weapon illegally. This is in direct opposition to the reports by the media that gun violence is on the rise. Factual evidence actually shows that one is more likely to be killed by hammers than by shooting. The elimination of all gun-free zones would allow these law abiding citizens to carry guns and provide a greater protection for everyone. An individual who legally possess a firearm, which is defined as a rifle, shotgun or hand gun is required by federal law to pass through a licensing process which includes a background check. This is far too many deaths, and they were terrible in their nature. However, when put into perspective, there are far greater dangers around us than firearms. You are more likely to die from car accidents, alcohol, tobacco, medical malpractice, obesity and yes, even hammers than you are to be killed by guns (Simple Facts and Plain Arguments). Does this mean that we should not do all we can to prevent the tragedy of rampage shootings? Certainly not! Stricter gun laws are not the way to prevent these disasters though.
