There are accidents where guns have gone off on accident every year. It has happened while hunting, walking down the street and on campuses. On October 15, 2016 an old friend of mine from High School was hunting with her father. While they were getting down from their tree stand her father 's gun fell off of his strap and went off. The result of this incident was a twenty year old girl lost her life because she was shot in the chest and died on impact. This proves to show that even while hunting where guns are typically used as weapons, there can still be a fatal loss and gun discharge accident. Let’s think about that, if a gun can kill someone on accident during a sport where you would use a gun then why would we allow such a thing on a campus with mostly underage students who are not even allowed to drink yet? (Which by the way, it makes zero sense to mix gun with drugs and alcohol. In 2010, a study showed that twenty-two percent of college students admitted to the use of illicit drugs. While in 2010, sixty-three percent of college students identified themselves as heavy drinkers.) (Miller, Ashley. "The Effects of Drugs & Alcohol on College Campuses.") Tarleton State at the beginning of this school year had their very own accidental gun discharge. The student turned himself in and there were no injuries and minimal property damage. May of 2015, a police cadet at Utah Valley University was showing his handgun to a fellow employee on their way to a police firearm class. The gun had accidentally went off and grazed the chest of his fellow cadet. At Weber State University in January of 2012 a student had an un-holstered handgun in his pocket. The gun discharged and shot him in his leg. A professor at Idaho State University was carry also carry an un-holstered handgun in his pants pocket. The gun as well went off and shot him in the foot. These accidents happen all of the
