Problem
The problem is Arizona allows people who are over 21 years old to buy and use handguns, which makes many people believe they are always under a dangerous environment of gun violence, especially children, women, and older people. From the statistics of gun violence in America, there are many results of surveys that show how serious gun violence in Arizona is, like how the rate of Arizona’s gun-death ratio is 40 percent higher than the U.S. average. The Law Center to prevent Gun Violence gave Arizona an “F,” ranking it 49th out if 50 states, even Arizona had the eighth-highest rate of women killed by men and so on (Center for American Progress, pp. 1). For example, adding new gun laws to create more limits and rules to reduce and control gun stores in Arizona could reduce gun incidents. It’s easy for people to buy guns in Arizona now. Why? Because after searching from Google the results show that there almost 168 gun stores in Phoenix, AZ. And from the results in Google Map, it very easy and clear for people to know how many gun stores near their location. Many of these gun stores are near schools like Arizona State University. It really leads to very dangerous issues near our school that has caused about three gun incidents just in one week. One of these gun accidents is from one Arizona State University’s Chinese student Jiang Yue has been killed in this gun incident (Flanagan and Walters). So that is why the proposal would pay more attention to creating more limits and rules to control and reduce gun stores in Arizona. For example, Arizona needs to reduce the number of gun stores, it could be reduced to half the amount of stores and not allow gun stores near schools within ten miles. Publishing new gun laws and rules about more new gun laws, a reducing gun stores and creating specific gun system will lead to financial issue. Because these solutions need government provide more staff and money to support. However, other states also through about this issue and still crating new gun laws to control gun incidents. For example, Connecticut created new gun law about requiring check people’s background when buy their guns and gun safety courses. And after they use the new law, gun deaths rate in Connecticut decreased 40 percent (Barack Obama, pp.4).
