Gun Control Persuasive Speech

Granted that this country is not by any means perfect, we indubitably don’t need gun control to make it worse. Unfortunately, most people are blinded by the media and led to believe that eliminating guns will significantly reduce violence and murders. However, this is not the case. It is crucial for people to understand that gun control will actually make matters worse, guns are not the problem, and the right to bear arms should be encouraged and enforced.

Primarily, we must first look at the result of gun control from a few other countries including Great Britain, Ireland, and Jamaica. Statistics show that after these countries banned guns, their murder rates greatly increased. Crime didn’t even stay where it was before the ban. Instead, it got far worse. Criminals see the gun ban as an opportunity to commit crime and murder and get away with it. If a murderer is already going to break the law by committing murder, why should he obey the gun ban? After all, who’s going to stop him if nobody else has a gun? The United States needs to see these examples from other countries and realize that the blunder has already been made. So why make it again?

People kill people. Murder and crime are inevitable. It happens with or without guns. Even if guns could actually be banned from everyone, murder would still exist. It doesn’t take a gun to commit a crime; it takes a desperate person. However, if you want to see crime rates go down, have non-felons open carry handguns in public places. Gun control is needed to a certain extent and the current laws that are in place are strict enough to prevent the crimes that we are able to prevent. Ultimately, gun control will not stop people from committing crimes by making stricter laws. Stricter laws affect the average law abiding citizen more then the criminals. Crime has always existed because humans are not perfect, but being able to have a firearm may be what prevents crime form happening around law-abiding families and citizens. In a perfect world, crime could be stopped by studying and understanding the criminals committing these crimes.…

Society has been split into two over whether or not guns should be banned, but there needs to be a solution where both parties can be happy. Anti-gun advocates present reasoning why guns should be banned. McMahan’s main two arguments of why guns should be banned: one, guns in the community creates a more dangerous environment; and two, the police have less of a power to protect citizens when society has guns (Shafer-Landau, The Ethical Life (EL) 390). McMahan explains that communities are not going to be free of crimes with more people carrying around guns, because criminals will be more prepared, efficient, and quicker to grab and shoot their target (Shafer-Landau, EL 392-392). People with guns will be safer than people without guns, because they do not have a gun to protect themselves.…

This fact sheet, “Guns Save Lives,” from the website gunowners.org states that law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times a year- or about 6,850 times a day. This shows that firearms aren't always used by criminals for criminal acts. In 1982, a law was passed in Kennesaw, GA requiring heads of the households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate dropped 89% in Kennesaw and 10.4% in Georgia overall. This shows how criminals avoid armed citizens and extreme gun laws/bans will only embolden them.…

Gun control isn’t the answer. As a law abiding citizen I follow the rules and make sure that my gun is in a safe place at all times. The key problem that people don’t realize is that guns do not shoot themselves but instead they are shot by the person who holds it whether they are of stable mind or not. Many think that by placing gun laws into effect it will reduce violence but the truth is that it will actually cause more harm than good. Take for example drugs and other substances they are illegal, people all over the country are still able to get them and abuse them.…

That is why it needs to be known that these strict gun laws do not keep us safe, and makes the country much more dangerous to live in. The one problem with gun control is that it does more bad than good when it comes to “stopping crime”. It seems as though the government thinks that providing strict gun laws will prohibit murder and other crimes from happening, but it just makes it worse. In his article by “The Record” in Los Angeles, Kenneth says that “fewer than 2 percent of the population commit violent crimes” (Cioletti Par 4).…

If guns are banned and the law-abiding citizens are obeying the law, then when the criminals attempt to commit a crime, it is going to be much easier for them to get away with it because the average citizen is not going to have any way to protect his or herself. According to NRA’s mantra, “[the] only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” (Hughes). So, not only does banning guns make it easier for a criminal to commit a crime, but it also disseminates any chance of stopping the criminal from committing the…

There is no doubt that gun control is a major problem in the U.S. If you read the news, you are probably aware of the alarming increase of gun violence in the United States. For instance, “In the U.S. alone, 13,286 people were killed in the U.S. by firearms in 2015, and 26,819 people were injured”. Given these points, if gun control was to be enforced, gun violence would be reduced. To begin with, an increase in firearms could possibly lead to more firearm-related deaths.…

Statistics show that strict gun control laws by themselves do not lead to less gun violence. There are more factors besides the availability or prevalence of guns that go into explaining violent crime rates (for example the most important single reason that gun violence rose sharply in Chicago and the District of Columbia was drugs). Criminals have access to about 500,000 guns stolen from private homes every year. Society needs to come up with effective ways to keep guns out of the hands of convicted criminals, fugitives, users of illegal drugs, the mentally disturbed, people subject to restraining orders, illegal aliens, minors and people discharged less than honorably from the armed…

Gun Violence Argument essay “Yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror”(Eliot Spitzer). Gun Control and debating whether they should be stricter has been a debate that has lasted for Centuries, and waiting and not making any progress and letting mentally ill individuals, criminals and drug abusers get a hold of a gun or an assault weapon that can bring harm to innocent people living their normal life is selfish and ludacris. The second Amendment “The Right To Bear Arms” Passed by Congress September 25, 1789. Ratified December 15, 1791.…

Every time there is a mass shooting some people call the NRA and tell them there needs to be an increase in regulation for these guns so they can stop gun violence but what they don't understand is that guns have been around for so long that mostly everyone already owns a gun and once someone owns a gun you can't take it from them. If they completely banned guns I feel that would be much more dangerous as there will still be a black market for guns just like anything else that's illegal. Banning guns completely is a terrible idea because now if a robber gets his hands on a gun from the black market he can hold up any store around and what is the store owner going to do? All he will be able to do is call the police and hope he doesn't get shot. This is why I feel we should never ban guns completely because by doing that you really make everyone more likely to be hurt via a…
