Thousands of Americans die every year with the use of guns. Therefore, more gun control laws are necessary for the safety of our country. There have been so many examples of how deadly and unpredictable guns and gun owners can be and Americans need to act now to change this. The future and safety of our country is in critical condition because of the lack of stricter gun control laws. Statistics show that for every 100 people in the United States, there are approximately 88.8 guns owned (ProCon). When every single gun owned in the United States is accounted for, that totals to about 270,000,000 guns. Meaning that 22% of American citizens own at least one gun, 35% of men and 12% of women. That

Statistically in places where guns are more accessible, more gun deaths occur (Listverse). This has proven to be true in the states as well as in 26 countries (Listverse). For example, a study was conducted in 2016 that showed that the gun homicide rates as well as the gun suicide rates were much higher in the United States than they were in other high-income, developed countries (ProCon). Gun homicides are approximately 25.3 times higher in the United States and gun suicides are about 8 times higher than in other developed countries in 2010. Out of all of the people killed by firearms 82 percent of them were from the United States. This means that 90 percent of women, 91 percent of people ages 0-14, and 92 percent of people ages 15-24 who were killed by guns in 2016 were all from the United States in 2010 …show more content…
shouldn’t make more gun laws is that criminals won’t follow the law anyways (LATimes). But that’s like saying the U.S. should have no laws at all because criminals aren’t going to follow them. But there is actually clear evidence that criminal behavior is in fact influenced by laws. One study taken place over the past 20 years has shown that bomb use among terrorists has substantially decreased. The reason for this decrease is thought to be because since 1995, the federal legislation has made it more difficult for people to get their hands on the major ingredients that are needed in order to create bombs. The federal legislation has also made it so that law enforcement can monitor purchases of bomb making ingredients much easier. Since it’s harder to obtain the ingredients needed to make bombs, terrorists rarely can make or use bombs. Therefore, making guns harder to obtain will most likely make gun injuries and deaths decrease in the same way

Murica doesn’t need Gun control Gun Control is a very hot topic these days. Some people think that having more gun laws in America would lessen the number of murders in America, however I think that having more strict gun control laws would do nothing to stop criminals from getting guns or killing people. Criminals will always find a way to get weapons. To prove this, handguns in the UK have been banned since 1998 and the murders have actually rose in numbers. For this reason I think gun control laws would not stop criminals from getting guns…

Between the years 2000 and 2013 the amount of deaths by guns in America exceeded the amount of deaths caused by AIDS, drugs, wars, and terrorism combined. Even more shocking than this statistic is how unique this issue is to the United States. In the United States there are 29.7 homicides for every 1 million people. Switzerland, with the second highest rate in the world, has only 7.7. It is not that Americans are just more violent individuals, in fact the US ranks far below first for crimes rates other than gun violence (Lopez).…

Over reading these three articles I find that we should not have more gun control laws and all actuality we should refine the ones that we have. When a country state or city increases their gun control laws it is evident that crime increases. It is my theory that with increasing gun control laws the common law abiding citizen does not have access to those guns. In increasing the gun control laws it takes the guns out of bad citizens’ hands that would otherwise have had the means to stop the crime. Crimes have been stopped by armed citizens that would have otherwise created mass killings.…

Comparing America to these countries allows us to effectively compare the countries because these are some of the most economically similar countries to America(theglobaleconomey.com). In 2000 Germany has almost 200 deaths at the cost of a gun, Japan with about 70 death and the United Kingdom with nearly 80 deaths. But The United States has Over 30 times the amount of deaths of all three countries combined of 11,000 just in 2000.(Shown in the graph below comparing the 4 countries in 2000[GBD Compare]). This enormous amount of deaths could be the result in the lenient laws in the U.S. In America every state has different laws about the usage of firearms but the few federal laws that every state has to follow are, you must be a resident, 18 years or older and the federal government requires a background check of each person who is applying to gain ownership of firearm.…
