Statistics show that more than 30 people are shot and murdered daily. While reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, it states “A tragedy unbelieveable and shocking beyond words, struck four members of the Herb Clutter family late Saturday night or earlier today”. (Capote 70) The Clutter family was the ideal family. Everyone in the town looked up to this family. The family was murdered so brutally the people of the town had hatred towards themselves for not being able to help. In a recent study conducted by Reid K Smith and James D Agresti, they have found that, “rather than being used for self defense, guns in the home are 22 times more likely to be involved in accidental shootings, homicides, or suicide attempts. Accidents Analysis and Prevention states, “for kids ages 5 to 14, the mortality rate is 14 times higher in high gun ownership states than low gun ownership states. For Infants and toddlers, ages 0 to 4, the mortality rate is 17 times higher. With these statistics, the question I pose is, “Are you safer owning a gun?” Many people turn to guns as a safety blanket, however, with the statistics given it does not seem like guns are helping protect
