Gun Control In Philadelphia

Philadelphia is proud of the reputation of being “the city of brotherly love”, with the LOVE park and sign right in Center City. However, Philly has gained a reputation for something else in recent years that have brought this nickname into a question; this city has become an example of rising gun violence, with constant shootings and multiple deaths. Every day and night, people are shot and often even killed for various and sometimes mysterious reasons. The city of brotherly love is in desperate need of more control of armed weapons, because gun violence has led to an increase in violence and deaths, weapons are too easy to obtain, and the police are being rendered powerless to stop the rising shootings. “self-defense” is scary, and whether people admit it or not, this cause of fear only exists because almost anyone can get their hands on a gun. Guns have a specific purpose- to defend and protect the innocent, mainly in the instances of war and self-defense. However, with that weapon comes the necessity to be able to protect the innocent against those who would misuse firearms. Stricter gun control would greatly benefit the city of Philadelphia; in fact this would benefit the entire world. There is no way to prevent all the violence and deaths in the world; however, if gun violence were better controlled, there would be significant improvement in the amount of shootings, both with injuries sustained and fatalities. The city of brotherly love could be a leader in these efforts, helping to preserve and protect lives. To stop all the senseless gun violence, the first step is to stop the abuse of this weapon that holds the power to both protect and destroy.
