Thank you all for coming to the presidential address. Today’s date is the 14th of December, 2016. Today marks the 4-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Massacre that took place in Connecticut. We are gathered here to commemorate the lives lost on this day. The 28 lives lost, the 20 innocent children’s lives.…
I understand the term has been defined and redefined over the years but seriously not every person should have this right. There are those who suffer from mental illness like the mother in Texas who shot her two teenage daughters killing them and in turn, she was killed by the police. This is not to mention felons, those being investigated by F.B.I and Homeland security, etc. Like many of the recent shootings, these are people who should have never been allowed to own any type of gun or handgun.…
Standing Up for the Second Amendment On the morning of December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza shot his mother four times as she lay in her bed. Then he drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School and shot 26 more people—20 students, nearly all of them first-graders, and six staff members. When first responders arrived, Lanza shot himself.…
The definition of a criminal tells us that criminals are a person who has committed a crime and broken the law in some way, shape, or form. Common sense tells us that criminals do not follow laws, so gun control laws will just add to the list of laws for them to break. One example of a law that was broken is the Gun Control Act of 1968. The Gun Control act of 1968 did not prevent any crime from happening and in “states enacting more-relaxed right-to-carry laws, murders fell an average of 8 percent, rapes an average of 5 percent, and aggravated assaults an average of 7 percent between 1977 and 1992” (Lott 1).…
United States is a nation where individual rights are guaranteed and practiced to some extent. For example, the amendments created by the United States government have raised questions and doubts in many individual’s minds where an answer is nowhere to be found. As stated in 2nd amendment “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” This has become a controversial issue all around the United States of America. Although some people may believe that guns should be banned, in reality the right to be armed should not be ceased because it provides protection and it reveals to the American Citizens that their rights are guaranteed.…
Gun Control does not prevent Gun Violence Gun control is a very controversial topic especially in today's society; whether gun control is good or bad is a very talked about subject especially when it comes to the United States. This is a very touchy subject because guns are a part of a lot of people's daily lives. People that are anti gun control believe that no one should be able to put any restrictions on guns. They believe that people should be able to buy a firearm just like a pair of boots or a tool. They also believe that if you take firearms away from the law abiding citizens that just leaves firearms in the hands of people that don't abide by the law and leaves them defenseless.…
Shall not be infringed “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (“The Bill of Rights: A Transcription”); this is a quote from the bill of rights that explains the right of all US citizens to own firearms. There is a reason that the bill of rights was created, and to talk about stripping anyone of something listed in the bill of rights is ridiculous. Should the government also do away with freedom of speech because it is dangerous to national security? The obvious answer is no; Citizens need to take a stand for their rights, especially important ones such as the second amendment. Numerous gun control advocates do not even know valid in depth…
The overall purpose of the gun control policy is to reduce the number of guns getting into the hands of people who are not legally licensed. Depending on the state, it also may or may not be required that you do a background check or have a license for gun purchases. For example, in the New York State, background check and having a licensed for gun purchases is required. However, in a state like Florida, background checks or having a license for gun purchases is not required. Despite this idea of background checks for gun purchases, there is also this idea of high-capacity magazine ban that prohibits people from selling and owning guns with high capacity as they are able to kill people rapidly because they do not need to be reloaded as fast.…
If it were in my hands to do something and have competence to change the laws, I would let individuals carry and or own weapons but they would need to have mental screenings between six months to a year to make sure that they are still capable of operating a firearm at one hundred percent. For example if a person owns a firearm suddenly gets into an accident and has becomes physically disabled affecting his eyesight or range of motion, he should be re-tested and or should be subjected to recertified. He or she should be able to pass the physical and mental requirements. Background checks and screenings are a necessity before a person get certified to own a gun or any kind of weapon permitted by the second amendment. If these precautions are taken our innocent society will not have to suffer from stress, fear of life, and the torture that comes from gun violence related…
If these three items that are listed were actually used by lawmakers when considering or writing out new gun laws, then the guns laws might actually make better sense. Better laws would help the public and would probably be more easily accepted by them as well. As was stated earlier, since public opinion plays a big role in what happens in the United States, if the public accepted reasonable changes to gun laws, the changes would be passed by the various legislators much easier. With the policies that are currently in place, there is an effective registration and licensing system in order to legally own a gun. As Vizzard states “An effective registration system allows police officers to make an instant determination of the legal status of the firearm, just as licensing allows instant determination of the legal status of the possessor” (901).…
"When the law disarms good guys, bad guys rejoice." ~Ted Nugent. What do you thing about gun control? Guns should not be ban or taken away they should have certain requirements. Guns are our personal rights and they are our Second Amendment.…
More than one hundred thousand people are involved in a shooting each year in the United States of America. (irrelevant). Gun control has become a major topic in the last couple of decades in America. It’s a very controversial issue around the world, in communities, and in some families. The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”…
Since the beginning of the United States there has always been the big two, Anti Gun Control and Gun Control. They have battled head to head in the court of law making for some of the biggest showdowns of the last few centries. For some reason many people are against the ownership of guns, whether they believe it would make the community safer or they are just scared of them in general. On the other hand others are very enthusiastic of the right to own guns and believe that putting guns in the hands of people who know how to properly use them can make the community a safer place. Owning a gun is one of the fundamental rights that the U.S. constitution and it itself are built upon.…
In the past few decades, firearms have had a big impact on society. These impacts have been both good and evil, and have caused controversy on the topic of gun ownership. Some groups, such as the Brady Campaign, would like to see gun control laws take away some rights and restrict others, whereas the National Rifle Association would like to protect gun rights and educate society on the use of firearms. Both sides want to stop the problem of gun violence, but protecting gun rights is the only way to truly insure public safety. Gun control will not be able to stop the use of guns, and it will put citizens in an unfair situation where they cannot protect themselves.…
According to a study published in 2012, the number of gun-related murders committed is at its lowest rate since 1981, even with an increased amount of people owning firearms (Gun Rhetoric, 2012). On the opposite side of the spectrum, those that support stricter gun control policies argue that the Second Amendment does not provide an unlimited right to own guns (US Supreme Court). Proponents of more gun control laws state that the Second Amendment is as dated as The Constitution and that it was intended only for militia . Nowhere in the Second Amendment is it explicitly stated that it was created to protect an individual’s right to bear arms (Waldman,…
