Gun control is a very controversial topic in today’s society. Owning and carrying firearms is and should always be part of our 2nd Amendment Right, with proper guidelines. The House panel recently passed a bill in November that would allow concealed-carry permits to allow the carrying of guns across state-lines, no matter each state’s concealed-carry guidelines. The bill was expected to pass the Republican ran House with no issue, but would have a more difficult time passing the Senate. This bill would be a huge victory for gun right advocates and gun right supporters. The bill’s original sponsor was Representative Richard Hudson, Republican of North Carolina. I feel our rights to bear arms should always be protected and we as civilians

Discussion centered on gun control critics being irrational. “Liberals are out to grab their guns” per supporters of gun rights. The National Rifle Association has made the issue part of the culture wars. People in rural and industrial parts of the country feel their way of life is under attack is what the culture wars are. If these weren’t the issues then people would realize gun regulations “don’t seriously impinge freedom.” Most people want more regulation of guns yet Congress hasn’t achieved this goal. In 2013 the Senate voted to reinstate a ban on assault weapons, which had been in place from 1994 to 2004 but it wouldn’t pass. There are more supporters of gun rights than opponents. Politicians are afraid of losing office from voting for gun regulation rather than against it. Universal background checks may help in some cases but there is easy access on the streets which is a major factor in mass shootings. The civilian ownership of handguns ban has lost public support over the past decades. Even though gun ownership has actually declined over the same time period. Stricter laws won’t stop or reduce gun violence, they will always find a way. That is why we as civilians should have the right to bear arms to protect ourselves the only way we can against terrorist and criminals with the same gun
