In this experiment we were trying to find out what liquid the gummy bears will grow the most in. Our hypothesis was the gummy bear in orange juice would grow bigger in length and in width. Our data did support our hypothesis because the gummy bear did grow the biggest in length and width in the orange juice. We observed the red cherry flavored gummy bears for two days. The orange juice gummy bear kept its bear shape, but colored the orange juice more yellow than orange. We also observed a red cherry flavored gummy bear in 409 all purpose cleaner. The liquid turned light red, and the gummy bear kept its shape. Lastly we observed a red cherry flavored gummy bear in the water. It turned into a jelly type substance, and turned the water red. This was because diffusion is the process where the molecules of both substances interact, with a constant kinetic energy. Therefore because the salt would increase the mass of the water, it would in result also increase the mass of the gummy bear because of the kinetic energy that interacts with both sets of molecules. In our planning stages we attempted to find a project idea which would vividly…

Environmental Effects on Pillbug Behavior Catherine Liapes October 14, 2015 AP Biology- Pd.9 Mr. Angus Introduction: Before conducting this lab, I researched information on pillbugs and learned that pill bugs are commonly found in damp environments such as piles of leaves, or under logs. Although they are crustaceous, they can still spend their entire lives on land. They are about ¾ inch in length with seven pairs of legs, and multiple antennae. Pillbugs are nocturnal and mainly consume rotting vegetation.…

The gummy bear acted as the semipermeable membrane in which a movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration was observed. The first solution consisted of 60 mL of water with 0% salt water concentration, the second solution consisted of 60 mL of water with 30% salt water concentration, and the third solution consisted of 60 mL of water with 50% salt water concentration. The gummy bear placed in the 0% salt water concentration swelled up and exhibited a mass growth from 2.6 grams to 8.2 grams. The gummy bear in the 30% salt water concentration shrunk and showed a change from 2.6 grams to 2.1 grams. The gummy bear soaked in the 50% salt water concentration decreased in mass from 2.6 grams to 2.0 grams.…

CONCLUSION: Two weeks ago, Soundings XVI performed Lab Experiment Number Two. Lab Experiment Number Two was similar to the previous, Lab Experiment Number One. The prompt was to compare the results of pennies dropped in water, versus the result of pennies being dropped into milk, both at 100 mL. The main purpose of this lab was to further discuss more scientific parts of this lab, such as the surface tension when the cylinder was close to overflowing for both the milk and water. Before performing this lab, my group and I created a hypothesis to reflect upon and to state what we believed would dictate the results.…

Based on the results of the control experiments, the interaction between the Calcium Chloride and phenol red are responsible for the high temperature change in the overall reaction. After doing a control experiment with Sodium Bicarbonate and phenol red and noticing that the temperature got colder, only one other chemical mixed with phenol red could be responsible for the warm temperature change that chemical being Calcium Chloride. There was a temperature change that was observed during the individual control labs as seen when calcium chloride was mixed with water it became hotter and when calcium chloride was mixed with the phenol red it also grew hotter in temperature. Though during the lab which mixed phenol red with baking soda the temperature…

I found the idea for this experiment on Science Buddies and many people have done the same experiment. Each has made different cars that they think will be the fastest or go the longest distance. Others have tested this experiment, but they put a weight such as pennies, marbles, etc. What I am planning to do is make a very lightweight car that can travel a longer distance. The energy that the balloon will force out is called kinetic energy.…

An experiment was carried out to determine the percent of 100 percent cranberry juice in cranberry apple juice. This experiment is significant in everyday chemistry because it is the job of many chemists, in regulatory agencies such as the FDA, to quantitatively determine if the ingredients listed on the label of a substance are actually in that substance. Cranberry juice has particular qualities that are not found in other juices. The quality studied in this experiment was color. Cranberry apple juice is a mixture, but, because it is said to contain cranberry juice, it should also have some of the same unique identifying quality, color, that cranberry juice has.…
