Gummi Bear Lab Report

I weighed out one hundred and fifty milliliters of potassium chlorate and presented it to the hesitant little girl. She looked as frightened as a mouse staring in the eyes of a cat. "Christy... I..I.." she stuttered. "You'll do fine." I interrupted. She was barely twelve and repeatedly told me she had never conducted an experiment before. I lit the Bunsen Burner and reassured her that everything would be just fine. Then, I instructed her to scoop the crystalline solid in a tube and fix the tube over the flame. I offered her a smile stuffed with motivation and luckily, she took it and used it as energy to complete the step. We awaited for the potassium chlorate to liquefy and then added the bust of the Gummi bear. Nothing happened. We uneasily glanced at each …show more content…
We conducted the experiment one more after analyzing our whole procedure twice; this time she tilted the tube at a 45 degree angle. Ssssshh shck shck block bop bop bop bop, the firework was a shade of purple you would see only at dawn or dusk: the light within it illuminating and mystic. The girl was ecstatic; she was able to analyze the experiment and change the apparatus so that results could be yield correctly. I helped conduct this experiment at the summer camp sponsored by the University of Oklahoma Future Health Scientists Partnership Program. I have been apart of Future Health Scientists since I was ten. Through my incessant participation I have been able to rise to the position of Junior Mentor. As a Junior Mentor I am bestowed with the responsibility of helping children in the groups below me and answering any questions they may have. For the past two summers I have been a camp counselor for forty seven eighth graders and fifty five seventh graders. My tasks range from preparing solutions that they use for their experiments to passing out pizza that is for their lunch. This activity has instilled in me hope for the future. When I watch

The purpose of this lab is to examine cross sections from the leaves of C3 and C4 plants and to determine the morphological differences between them while relating those differences to their metabolism. In C3 plants the carbon dioxide is first incorporated into a 3-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place throughout the mesophyll cells. In comparison C4 plants, the CO2 is first incorporated into a 4-carbon compound. Their stomata are open during the day and photosynthesis takes place within the inner cells.…

Have you ever wonder why, if you drop a gummy bear in water, why does it grow? Well here you will find the answer to that. First of all gummy bears are made up of a sugary solution that has gelatin in it which holds solutions together to make gummy candy and the gelatin needs water to hold the solution together and the companies that make the gummy have to extract the water so the gummies can get denser and get smaller so that is why later when you put water in the gummy bear or any other candy it will expand. This experiment is sometimes called osmosis, osmosis is when something swells up to several times it size. Also when a gummy bear is grown in water it will become way less dense, the density is how there is more weight to a smaller…

Conclusion My initial hypothesis was that the -LB plate will have no growth, the -LB/AMP with have a lawn of bacteria, the +LB/AMP plate would have a number of small colonies filling about half of the plate and the +LB/AMP/ARA plate would be filled with with colonies but not enough to create a lawn (approximately half of the +LB/AMP). Based on the data solely from our group my hypothesis is somewhat supported. The -LB plate had no growth, as predicted. The -LB/AMP plate had a lawn of bacteria making the plate translucent.…

The focus of this lab was to identify an unknown organism based on its characteristics and the results from each of the tests. There will be various of test to choose from in order to identify the unknown organism, which will eliminate numerous possibilities and narrow it down to one. All the fundamental skills that we have learned and practiced in the lab will be used to perform on our unknown such as aseptic technique, microscopic examination, the use of differential media, and determining if it’s positive or negative. Performing aseptic techniques is the most crucial step that requires the utilizing of transferring, inoculating, and storing bacterial cultures and media. Aseptic technique is defined as procedures that prevent contamination…

Conclusion Through burning varied solutions in a flame the information that is found becomes very useful. While burning any solution in a flame it produces a flame on the visible line spectrum. This flame color allows for a brief understanding of the energy the solutions possess. The least energy in the visible light spectrum is the color red and the most energy is violet. According to the data found in the experiment we come to the conclusion that the least energy is Lithium Nitrate due to the color being a dark red and the most energy is Potassium Chloride due to its color being a shade of purple.…

In the lab, the purpose of it was to show how much carbon dioxide is released depending on what was with the yeast/what they could eat in the bag. Based on the lab results, it showed the purpose very well. In the lab, the bags that had sugar or cornstarch in them grew very big compared to the other bags filled with grass or just yeast. In bag A ( which had sugar with the yeast) there was a huge bubble that was 18 mm tall after 15 minutes. On the other hand, in bag D( with only yeast ) there was not a huge bubble of carbon dioxide, the bubble in this bag was only 4 mm tall after 15 minutes.…

For my conditioning project, I conducted an experiment on my friend Ashleigh. Everyday I would leave my jacket in our locker and ask her to bring it to me at the end of the day. We met up in the front of the school and when she brought me my jacket I would ask for her hand and shake it. The point of the project was to see if without me saying hand, would she automatically stick her hand out, expecting me to shake it. My project was a success in the end but, I had to make some changes to my original plan.…
