This small dismal boat is their only chance of survival as it floats along utterly defenseless atop the vast and cruel ocean. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee there are many quotes. The quote “you never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” sticks out the most. The thing that makes it stick out the most is about how true it is. In our generation we usually judge people by the way they look or dress but will never get to know them. Some other quotes similar to this quote are “ i had to put ourselves in her shoes and it was a honest mistake”,”people generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for.…

“The relationship between the individual and nature can either result in meaningful connections or a source of conflict.” Henry Lawson, an Australian author, employs extensive imagery to create an Australian story. His writing engages the audience with the elements of Australia and narratives of surviving in the relentless and inhospitable environment. In order to co-exist with the nature, individuals may have to surrender their identity as well as luxuries, to develop protection against the relentlessness of the Australian outback. In The Drover’s Wife and In a Dry Season, Lawson explores the meaningful connections or a source of conflict that exist between the relationship of individuals and nature, through the loss and strength demonstrated…

Stave 1--Dismal Gray seemed to shroud the entire section of this story, hanging low like the mist over England. Although bleakness is not the main theme in A Christmas Carol, it is certainly present and important. As evidenced by the author’s word choice when he was adding description to the Christmas Eve night: it was cold, bleak, biting weather, and he could hear the people in the court outside….candles were flaring in windows of the windows of the neighboring offices, like ruddy smears upon the palpable brown air….to see the dingy cloud come drooping down obscuring everything….…

In the article, “Homeless, Mike Dick Was 51, Looked 66,” author Kevin Fagan stated that “The nation needs to commit, emotionally and economically, to saving these older folks” (321.) The older folks referred to in the article are homeless people that live across the United States. Fagan maintained that the nation can do better in terms giving back to the needy, especially considering the wealthy of the nation. However, what Fagan failed to mention in the article is what the homeless are not doing for themselves. Long time homelessness is a predicament that can only be blamed on the homeless because people that wind up homeless for whatever reasons are capable of changing their situation.…

All this happened to someone, a human being, someone who has feelings like everyone else, imagine how he must have felt and what he had to go through. But what really mattered is that he did not lose hope and neither did his family. And so the most important theme of the story is to never lose hope and to never give up. One example of this happening in the Odessey is when Ulysses is prevented by the god Poseidon(god of seas) from getting home.…

Throughout the centuries, words and their definitions have evolved, within the political sphere. For instance, the notion of democracy as it is known today is diametrically opposed to the definition of democracy that was implemented during Plato's era, during which it was seen as being part of the worst regimes. One can also note the same pattern of variation, as far as the ideas of equality and inequality are concerned. For the sake of this essay, the definitions provided by Hobbes and Rousseau will be analyzed, as well as their views on the state of nature and on the idea of a social contract. “Nature hath made men so equal in the faculties of body and mind as that, though there be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body…
