In this scenario, I feel that HR failed to effectively communicate with the employees at Gulf Port Ships. Once the leaders of the organization, learned about the major upset amongst workers, with management's decision to charge employees vacation banks for days they missed work, There should have been a plan of action called into place and this situation should have been addressed by HR, to prevent it from growing into a bigger problem. By addressing concerns of workers, it would have demonstrated to the workers, that the organization care, and has the best interest of workers at heart. Had a meeting been held between HR and workers, immediately after the storm, it would have restored the morale of workers, and improved productivity. In addition, by addressing the issues at hand, it would have put an end to the rumors circulating the firm and help workers back on track.
Policies serve as roadmaps and are established for the purpose of accepted objectives and strategies in an organization. In addition, policies are comprised of different strategies, on how to handle situations, should they arise. In this case of Gulf Port Ships, Inc, it appears the policy was well written, and should have eliminated any misunderstanding by salaried employees. For instance, in this
