Oil spill/ stem paper #2 The oil spill in the Arabian gulf/kuwait was the worst oil spill of all time. This oil spill occurred on Jan. 19, 1991 in the Persian Gulf. The history of this oil spill is very sad but very unique. As you know most oil spills are accidental and people try to prevent oil spills but this oil spill was not. At this time the Gulf war was happening and this war lead to a horrific oil spill. This was caused by the Gulf war, Iraqi tried to keep American soldiers from getting on land by opening their oil terminals and dumping oil into the ocean. When the Americans had discovered what the iraqis had done they accused them of environmental terrorism. They accused them of this because they had meant to spill several million gallons of oil into the water which they knew would affect the environment in many big ways. When they denied these accusations they tried to say that the americans had caused it by a recent bombing of their gas supply. The real reason was that they simply wanted to put the blame on someone else and the Americans denied these accusations. So in conclusion this was the biggest oil spill of all time and unlike the majority of all others it was intentional. The area around the oil spill was not in the best shape …show more content…
The environmental effect is only half of the battle in this case but there will still be many years to have to fix this. The economy of the Gulf will be struggling for many years due to the oil spill and the war. The community won't recover from this ever, there will always be this history in this community. The long term effects of this spill will forever be known as the biggest oil spill in history and it will also be the biggest oil spill ever done on purpose. So in conclusion there is many long term affects from this oil spill and the prior history and actions that were ongoing before and after this
