My Years At Gulf Coast

The following photo is of my eighth grade class climbing the majestic trees at our school. During our three years attending Gulf Coast Middle School we have always been forbidden from climbing any of the trees on campus. For our 8th grade graduation pictures we were actually permitted to climb the trees, it felt like a right of passage. The staff took pictures of us all lounging around in our dress clothes. Although it was a fun experience, I was looking forward to getting out of my bow tie and back into shorts and a t-shirt.

The crystal clear water was very cold at first, but most of us had wet suits on so we didn’t quite feel the cold. I distinctly remember one of the marine life we got to see was a gar fish, it is basically a fresh water barracuda. We also saw some fresh water springs, it was fascinating to feel the water flowing from the spring beneath. Once we snorkeled to the halfway point, we were allowed to stop for a bit and rest. At the rest stop we were actually granted permission to climb and jump from a fallen tree that was hanging over the water. It was a lot of fun, but my foot slipped a little giving me a sudden rush of adrenaline before I jumped. Rainbow River is a beautiful river and has a tranquil atmosphere, I prefer fresh water over salt so I enjoyed this trip over swimming in the …show more content…
We spent weeks in class building and painting our rockets to make sure they were good to go for launch. I chose to get one of the more advanced rockets because I wanted to see it fly really high. When my rocket was finally launched, it sailed over one thousand feet high. Everything went exactly as planned until it was floating down on its parachute. It kept going into the next field and landed in a tree. I went back the next day and retrieved it from the tree.
