I have volunteered for the Naples Zoo, Gulf Coast Humane Society, Caleb’s Crusade, as well as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. At the Naples Zoo, I assisted during their construction and I guided visitor’s through the zoo, since there was blocked off areas due to the construction. For the Gulf Coast Humane Society, I volunteered with them in a non-traditional way. I collected old t-shirts from Delta Delta Delta sisters and I used them to make over 100 chew toys for the dogs at the humane society. By doing this I know I was able to make an impact on the animals that were already in the shelter as well as the ones that have yet to come. For Caleb’s Crusade I was able to sit down with their founder and help him come up with various events

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I volunteered in New Orleans for an alternative Spring Break opportunity where I participated in volunteer projects around the city with my travel group throughout the week. During the trip, we volunteered with the Saint Bernard Project, a rebuilding, nonprofit organization whose mission is to help disaster-impacted communities recover. They put a lot of effort into rebuilding homes, fundraising, and preparing for potential disasters. The home we serviced was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. We spent a lot of time installing drywall for the Saint Bernard Project.…

I have volunteered at my church by cleaning, helping with Vacation Bible School during the summer, and helping with the Fish Fries during Lent. I started volunteering at my church a couple years ago when they needed help with somethings. The first time I starting it was only for Vacation Bible school and the only reason I started was because they need more staff to help with the kids. From then on I have helped every year at the St. Michael's Church in Emlenton and I have helped with so many things during Vacation Bible School. Some of the stuff I help with Vacation Bible School was food, crafts, and games and they started a new thing last year that you take picture of the kids doing actives about god and how much we love him.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
