The breed of guinea pig in Figure 6 is a Peruvian. They are identified by their long, sleek hair that grows continuously all over their body, even over their head (Passion for Pets, n.d). The Peruvians’ hair is smooth and straight, and can grow to over 50cm, and so needs constant grooming and trimming. They can come in many different colours, similar to the American breed, but a popular colour marking is tri-colour, 3 colours usually white, cream and slate. Peruvians, when born, have short hair with 2 rosettes on either side of the rump, and are often mistaken for the Abyssinian breed, due to their appearance being so similar.
