Guilt of Pride Guilt is something that taunts a person 's mental mind. Guilt can play with someone’s mental mind driving them mad. But parvenu person on the other hand is someone who prides himself, which pride is a temporary high. Pride can range from different things, it 's all based on what the person prides him or herself on. But pride can also illud one to not know from right and wrong and when the pride starts to fade away it leaves somewith the guilt of their actions, their left with the realization the guilt of their pride and dignity. These traits shown both in The Tell Tale Heart and Young Goodman Brown. The narrator in “TTH” is a caretaker of an old man, but that comes to an end in which the narrator kills the old man with pride. The narrator tells us that he is not mad, because of the actions he has done “ If still you think me mad, you will think so no longer when I describe the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body”. The Narrator explains how he prides himself for disposing the body. The pride blinding him like a blizzard from the real image of his gruesome murder. Slowly the pride of the narrator clears away, but still enough to blind him from seeing his guilt of the rachet crime and actions he has done. The narrator explains how claim he is and confident, yet again being controlled by his pride to not feel the guilt of the crime. It is shown when the Narrator tells us about the knock at the door, “ As the bell sounded the hour, there came a knocking at the street door. I went to open it with a light, - for what had i know to fear?” The narrator still hasn’t gotten a clear mind of his actions, because of the pridefulness on what he did, Thus making him comfortable with being open, because he takes pride on the precautions he took. The protagonist Goodman Brown is lived a life in which sinful acts were scolded by people. Brown was grown is a place which they prided someone who hasn’t sinned. This is especially shown when Brown explains his pride “ We have been a race of honest man and good christians since the days of martyrs; and shall i be the first of the Brown that ever took this path and kept” (). Brown shares the feeling of how men are, which he uses “ Honest and good christian man”. He is prideful of who he is and what his pride stands for, but this blinds him from the flaws of humanity. As Brown continues, he slowly realizes, but quick to ignore it. Brown goes on an adventure to find the true meaning of humanity. This symbolized as a road in the forest which Goodman Brown takes. As Brown takes this road he sees the realization of mankind by seeing his idols. The forest in Salem time is known as a place of sinful acts and the devil 's home. When he sees his idols in the forest he is flummoxed by it. The realization of how his idols have been in the forest, which is known for a place of sinful acts.
