Amir had thought about what he has done, abandoning his one true friend but "Maybe Hassan was the price [he] had to pay, the lamb [he] had to slay, to win Baba.”Amir feels as if he needs to give up Hassan or show his dominance over him, to gain Baba's love. Amir couldn’t help but wonder “Was it a fair price? The answer floated to [his] conscious mind before [he] could thwart it: [hassan] was just a Hazara, wasn't he" (Hosseini pg. 77). Amir hated himself for thinking of Hassan as just a hazara because he meant so much more to him. Amir is trying to degrade Hassan from friend to hazara to justify abandoning him. Amir's jealousy getting them best of him made him risk their friendship and he would soon regret it. Hassan did not know that Amir witnessed the price he had to pay to keep that kite and “if he knew, then what would [Amir] see if [he] looks in [hassan's] eyes? Blame? Baba being Amir's friend now takes the family to (look up place). On the way Amir gets sick and has them pull over, getting dizzy “ little shapes formed behind [his] eyelids, like hands playing shadows on the wall.” turning into “Hassan’s brown corduroy pants discarded on a pile of old bricks in the alley” (84). Amir tries to forget what had happened with hassan but he will never forget. Every moment Amir thinks he pushed it down enough that he can move on with his life, it comes back up.
