GTCC Class Reflection

To earn an associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) one must take and pass certain classes in order to transfer to a four year institute. One of these many classes is ACA 122-College Transfer Success. It is a one credit course designed to help students who are new to the world of community college and transferring to succeed in the future. For me personally I was not so lucky. This is my last semester at GTCC so this class has been a bit of an annoyance rather than helpful, because a large section of the class is geared towards planning out one’s course schedule for their remanning semesters at GTCC. If I had taken it back in the fall of 2014 when I first started at GTCC I would have gotten a lot more out of the class. …show more content…
For me it took at least two semesters to truly understand how WebAdviser worked. It wasn 't even until the end of my second semester that I even knew what a program evaluation was or how to find it. Trying to navigate through GTCC’s websites to find the requirements for an associates in Science was almost impossible and took many hours of trial and error. If I had taken this class my first semester I would not have run into any of these issues. For a student like my self this class could be seen as not necessary but for students just starting at GTCC this class would be very helpful and in the long run even time saving. Not only does this class teach students how to navigate through GTCC’s many websites it also helps students plan out there future at GTCC and beyond. If I had had this class my first semester I would have had a better understanding of the classes I needed and I probably would have graduated last spring. Another aspect of the course is explaining the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) and how it works and applies to the individual, which is quite important when you go to transfer. This class helps you understand the college system in a lot more detail and explains and helps the students navigate through it allowing for a more seamless …show more content…
As one of the first classes one should take ACA-122 it would teach its students the basics for success in their two years at GTCC and beyond. To have a class that teaches you how to use the schools websites to their full potential makes sense and is a great idea, but needs to be explained to new and incoming students. This class is great for helping students understand the qualities associated with good academic performance and in explaining how to implement them in their own lives. When a student is finished with this class they will have the tools and resources needed for success along with a personal understanding of themselves as a student and as a life long

My idea of success is earning an Associate of Arts degree in two years so that I can transfer to a 4-year university. In order to successfully achieve an Associate of Arts degree in the next two years, I will need to register for a full-time load every semester, attend class sessions regularly, and develop study habits that are effective for my learning style needs. The first step toward graduating in two years is to maintain a full-time load every semester. The first time I was in college, I only enrolled part time and didn’t make much progress. I felt like I was spinning my wheels because after a whole year went by I still didn’t have any real credits on my transcript (after I failed a couple of classes and had to withdraw from a few more).…

Not inly time management, but organizational skills was a major technique to learn as I went through my first semester. I always wanted to learn to use a planner during schooling but I never actually did it until this semester. With all these new projects, assignments, and study sessions to keep in track the use of a planner became very vital. To solve this I downloaded a planner app onto my phone that alerted me through the week, and this way of organization helped me tremendously compared to if I wrote things in a planner. Everyone learns and studies differently so in order to really succeed you must find what works for you, and how to keep everything in order.…

If I was not for those classes requiring me to learn how to study and prepare for tests, I wouldn’t be as well off as I am now. High schools should have workshops or classes about the different ways to study and what would work best for certain people. A work shop class about how to study would be beneficial to students – it would teach multiple ways that the student could study based on what would work better for them. I had to learn on my own my senior year of high school, but the way I study is I write everything over and over and over until I can picture my notes in my head. Quizlet is also a great…

When I first enrolled here at Tarrant County College, I did not believe I would make it through my first semester here. Academically college is nothing similar to high school. In college you are advised to study and spend your time wisely or you will fail your exams. Unlike High School, where students are able to study a couple hours before their exam and still have a passing grade. In college, I realized time management and good study habits are a very successful way to get you through the semester.…

I had to get used to the new rules and new format in a short time. Usually, student talk the ACT in their junior year, get the scores back, and have the option to retake it to get a better score. I had to take it in my senior year. Moreover, I did not receive enough assistance from the advisor to get ready and prepare for the test. Therefore, I did not get the score that will allow me to be accepted in to a four year school.…

I am writing to appeal my Faculty Scholarship at Our Lady of The Lake University. In my first semester of 2014-2015 academic school year I obtained a GPA of 1.76. Regardless of the difficulties I had transitioning from high school to college, I admit, my GPA being that low is my entire fault. In the fall I simply did not know what it took to be a successful college student. I was still a naïve high school student who thought getting through college would be just as easy as high school.…

I hope that I will get more opportunities in learning how to reach more content areas across the curriculum, so I will have a solid foundation when I bring it into my classroom. One thing I struggle with is using multiple TEKS to one lesson. I really hope that I will be provided with practice in the classroom so when I am a teacher it will not be such a struggle. Once I am finished student teaching, I plan to devote my first year of teaching to finding effective lessons that can easily be accessed again throughout the year. I felt that it helped the students when their mind was constantly reminded of what they previously learned.…

The main reason a person goes to college is because they want to earn a degree to be able to obtain a job. However, they do not actually start working for four or more years, while bootcamp students can start working in 8 to 12 weeks. The downside to this is that bootcamps are not offered for every discipline, which means these coding bootcamps are not for everyone. Another way bootcamps save students time is by offering the courses online so students are able to fit it into their schedule. This saves them time because the students would not need to travel to and from the bootcamp center or change their normal schedules to conform with the bootcamps.…

The transfer from high school to college can be a challenge. My first year of college taught me numerous lessons that I still use to this day. One of the most imperative lessons is to go to teacher office hours. The second is to get to know individuals in your class because fellow classmates can be extremely helpful. Next is that having a sense of time is important.…
