Introduction
The complex changes in education trends predominantly in the world of work and society calls for proper implementation of guidance and counseling services in Nigeria particularly in the school system. Some of these trends are unstable homes, poor academic performance, drug abuse, high risk of sexual exploitation, cultism; kidnapping e.t.c, of latest concern to the government and stakeholders of education is the trend where some graduates of primary school and secondary school are unable to pass entrance examinations into secondary and tertiary levels. Also, some graduates of the tertiary institutions are no longer fit into the labor market because of unemployment and underemployment among others. This trend calls for proper implementation of Guidance and Counseling services in Nigeria, to remedy the sorry situation. The ball however still lies in the hands of the school guidance Counsellor. While the principal is viewed as the primary administrator, the school counsellor is often viewed as part of the administrative or leadership team. They both focus their efforts on securing a safe and appropriate education for all students; however, their perspectives regarding decision-making and approaches to problem solving can vary widely. While the principal tends to take a wider, organizational focus when approaching a decision, the school counselor approaches decisions based on individual students or small groups. Given their often close working relationship and shared instructional goals, it is natural that the principal and the school counsellor would have a strong desire and mutual interest in working towards the development of a collaborative
