This stage is known as Identity VS Role Confusion, according to Erickson developmental stages. At this stage of Carla’s life, she is supposed to be developing a self of identity. Due to her living condition, the possibility of life becoming stressful can have many emotional effects on her including low self-esteem. There is the need for Carla to be continuously reinforced positively so as to prevent her from feeling inadequate in her ability to survive. Once she fails to establish a sense of identity within society and not sure about herself she can become overly dependent upon others and might feel a sense of guilt or shame in her abilities which can lead to role confusion. According Erickson psychosocial theory; “The fifth stage of development is a person life is identity vs. role confusion, and it occurs during adolescence, from about 12-18 years. During this stage, adolescents search for a sense of self and personal identity, through an intense exploration of personal values, beliefs, and goals.” Ma Leoud
