Magnus Tait, I believe had a growth mindset that you see come out again and again as you read through this novel. As stated before a growth mindset is when someone believes anyone can be good at anything, because your abilities are entirely due to your actions. In this situations Magnus was nice to the girls hoping that his actions would be good enough for them to stay and talk. He was opened minded which is another trait of a growth mindset. Another situation is Magnus bought a cake and always waited up on New Year’s Eve with the faith and hope someone would come and visit him. He did not see it as it was ever a possibility but that it may very actually happen. That’s is an example of a growth mindset pushing forward, not giving up hope always

Summary: In the article “Brainology”, Dweck talk about two types of attitudes or mindsets. The two types are a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. Students with a growth mindset tended to get up again from setbacks and continuously improve academically with added effort, while those with a fixed mindset had a mindset that their abilities is what they are stuck with, they are afraid to further challenge themselves; due to belief that they aren't capable. Dweck had concluded that praising one without any acknowledgement of effort tended to create a fixed mindset while those praised for hard work or effort were more likely to not only feel more confident but still kept trying even if a task was a challenge, making these qualities a growth mindset,…

In GPS 1010, I have learned that a person’s mindset is established in (1) a particular way of thinking; or (2) a person’s attitude and set of opinions about something. In addition to these items, one can either have a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. These mindsets play a huge role in one’s success or failure. The mindset has “two meanings to ability, not one: a fixed ability that needs to be proven and a changeable ability that can be developed through learning” and repetition. To sum up, “the fixed mindset makes you concerned with how you’ll be judged; the growth mindset makes you concerned with improving.”…

And in an article written by Alfie Kohn and she states how there are other factors such as your home life, relationships, and you and your families’ health. See Dweck talks about how all you need is praising to succeed, sometimes people have so much going on outside of the classroom; they simply can carless about being praised. Kohn stresses that it’s not praising but a better curriculum she states, “An awful lot of schooling still consists of making kids cram forgettable facts into short-term memory.”…

Due to the information from this book, it discussed how the determination, drive to work harder, and correct mistakes, are associated with the “growth” mindset. Those who cannot learn from mistakes or guilt themselves after a setback are shown to have the “fixed” mindset. This being said, it is logical that individuals with the “fixed” mindset would have greater difficulty obtaining success. It is said exclusively that “leaders are made, not born” (Dweck 141). This skews the saying “natural born leader” and rids it of its validity.…

An optimistic growth minded man named Will Smith once stated, “If you’re not making someone else’s life better, than you are wasting your time. Your life will become better by making other people’s lives better.” Now what exactly is being growth minded? Holding a growth mindset is believing that intelligence can be developed, that the brain can be grown and strengthened, like a muscle that can be trained. This leads to your desire to improve.…
