Growing Up With A Sister With Disabilities

Decent Essays
An experience that caused me to change my perspective is growing up with a sister with disabilities. My sister was born with Aicardi syndrome, meaning she had about 3 seizures daily, could not walk, talk and got sick often. Growing up I became accustomed to appreciating everything such as being able to run around and play and being able to have a free will. I learned to appreciate my family and be responsible considering that at times my mom spent months with my sister at the hospital and I was in charge at home. My perspective changed forever.

rticle 5: Crucibles of Leadership Central Theme: Perspective determines whether a person fails or succeeds. Bennis and Thomas describe a crucible as a “point of deep self-reflection” that forces a person to “question who they [are] and what [matters] to them” (Bennis and Thomas, p.99). The authors gave several examples that displayed how different people used their unpleasant or enlightening experiences to become successful. The most important thing to understand is that any opportunity good or bad can be taken as an opportunity to grow or go. Critical Analysis: The authors did not give a formulaic response as to how to overcome or conquer a crucible; they solely gave examples of how successful people have overcome their personal crucibles.…
