Growing up I remember being such a tomboy, I grew up with two older brothers and a sister I was the youngest and I always played with the boys and ended up climbing trees and getting into trouble with the neighbors, basically I was a naughty child. My parents used to constantly nag me saying, “Girls don’t act this way, why don’t you behave more like your sister.” My sister was an ideal daughter never getting into trouble always getting good grades and straight as an arrow. I had an arranged marriage at an early age of 20 and had my two kids at 25; I never really got the chance to work. However, when I was 30 and my kids got a little older I decided it was time to I needed to work and followed my passion and went to baking school and become a baker. I opened my first bakery at the age of 35, a task I was constantly told I couldn’t do because it was too much hard work especially since I am a woman.

My woman mentor is someone that I have known for a few years now and what always stood out was her sheer drive to go out and just do what she wanted. Her passion and desire to keep on learning is contagious. Despite her age, she has never let that stop her from achieving her goals and that is truly inspiring and who I hope to become some day. It is her can do attitude that has inspired me to stop letting fear control my life and to keep on remembering that I am in charge of my life. In fact, she was the reason I decided to study again and pursue a career I was too afraid to take a chance on. Her mantra “All I need is within me” has helped to get rid of self-doubt, whenever it decides to creep into my life. During my interview with her, the first thing I noticed was her language she always used positive words and it was her positivity that rubbed off on me. After the interview I actually felt good and motivated. She was happy to share with me her knowledge that she has gained over the years and gave me valuable lessons that will help me make better decisions not only in my personal life but also my professional

As a child, I always found myself to be more mature than the other kids, partly because I was raised in a household where it’s a woman's job to take care of her family. This cultural requirement forced my mother to teach me everything I needed to know on taking care of kids, cooking, cleaning etc. Although, my family and I moved to the United states years ago, that mindset of cultural oppression never left. Personally, I value honesty on the emotional level, such as the tendency to build strong relationships with others close to me. Throughout many years of my life, I believed those values, but never was able to follow those beliefs.…
