Growing Up Research Paper

Growing up I always looked up to my dad as a role model. He taught me at a young age to not depend on anybody other than yourself. There was a day in particular when my dad sat me down and had a conversation with me and told me “if you don't know how to do something, don't look for others for help, instead learn to figure it out. Because the day it happens again you will have the knowledge to be able to fix it without needing anyone.” The conversation changed how I lived life today. “But the whole problem of discovering what was the matter, and figure out what you have to do to fix it-that was interesting to me like a puzzle”(107). Growing up I always saw my dad doing everything; if that included plumbing, electrical work, Carpeting and …show more content…
I have a strong interested in how everything works and how it is put together I use to play by building toy cars out of metal and tiny electric car engines as a kid. Also the toys my parents use to buy I would take them apart and rebuild them just for the fun of it and figure out how it all worked perfectly together. As I got older so did my toys. I build bikes from scratch from yard sales and build my own ramps out of wood and nails. Entering high school I decided to enroll in woodshop class. I did four years of advance woodshop. In those four years of woodshop class I accumulated a great deal of knowledge in woodworking and by the end of my senior year I build all the furniture in my parents house. I value the knowledge I gain in those four years and I believe it will help me for the rest of my life. Because in the future I will be able to make my own furniture for not only for myself, but as well as for my close friends and …show more content…
The more jobs Mr. Feynman got, the more practice and knowledge he was able to receive. He said that sometimes it took a while for him to repair the radios, but each repair he complete, the more knowledge he gained. I can relate to Mr feynman; In the Beginning of senior year my friends and I decided to start a project car; so we bought a 1992 Nissan 240x car frame. The car was striped down and to the bare bones. My friends and I only knew basic knowledge of cars so we had no idea what were we doing. Instead of giving up we all did our research went to Youtube and learn how to do everything. As we bought the parts little by little and putting them on as we go, we learn something new every step of the way. Just like Mr. feynman did with every radio repair that he did. We bought a engine, transmission, steering wheel, everything you can think of. We hooked everything up to the car. After multiple trials and errors, my friends and I were able to start the car and hear the engine roar for the first time. We have yet to put it on the street and test it out, but were not done yet. From the start of the project to where we are today I have learn an exceeding amount about cars and how cars work and the components it takes to make a car run. That knowledge I acquired is valuable to me and will never go away. I see cars in a different way now. I see the value and craftsmanship it

Both my mother and father have been working since they were kids to establish a better life in the U.S. that was worth living and furthermore changing the lives of their children. Because of their motivation to succeed, the mindset of hard work has been distilled in me. My work ethic distinguishes me from others due to the fact that I exceed expectations. The fact that their background environment helped motivate them to succeed and not wanting their children to experience the same path is why my parents are my motivation. Every family has their own definition of what “work ethic” really is due to the family background but the difference that defies strong work ethic is when good enough doesn’t satisfy you.…
