Growing up my family was poor, but my parents ensured that my siblings and I always had what we needed, and continuously supported us as we grew and tried to follow our dreams. Although neither of my parents obtained a college degree, they understood that education was important and constantly encouraged us to take an interest in our school work.
When I was six years old my mother married my stepfather, who adopted me and raised me as if I were his daughter. I was excited to finally have what I perceived as a complete family. The day we went before a judge to have my adoption finalized was one of the happiest days of my life. When I was seven years old, my mother gave birth to my sister, Rahchell, who is diagnosed with autism. This had a profound effect on my life, as Rahchell grew up I was unsure how to interact and how to bond with her. My sister and I now have a close relationship, but the journey was difficult and I learned about myself and how to interact and engage with people who are different than I.

Interacting with lawyers in different fields and attending Continuing Legal Education classes reinforced the confidence I had in my major and my career choice. Several of the lawyers I met during my internship, told me how they had helped people during their careers confirming my choice.
Boyd School of Law is my school of choice because I plan to live in the Las Vegas area after graduating, to give back to my community, and to watch my sister grow and help her as she discovers her own dreams. Furthermore, I want to attend Boyd because it will afford me the opportunity to give back to my community while I am attending school. Through community service projects and Pro Bono partnerships I can begin pursuing what I am passionate about early in law
