I was born in Chicago, IL in November of 1997. My father, who was 20, and my mother, who was 18, faced many struggles having a child at a young age. While in Chicago I moved around a lot and had trouble adjusting to one place at a time. At the age of three, my life restarted in Miami, FL. Once I moved to Florida, my family moved into my great grandmother’s house. After a few years, I again moved to a new house that my family no longer shared. I lived in this house for six years. The summer before I was turning eleven, I had found out my parents were getting a divorce. I had also had found out, the next year I would be moving back to Chicago. I spent my freshman trying to become the best I could be. At first I had no rank but, at the end of the year with only three detentions and a 3.4GPA I became the Commanding Officer in my class. I was now the freshman leader and lead the example. That summer I went to ROTC camp, that only three people in my class were allowed to attend. On the last day of summer, I heard news that would affect my life next year. After my sophomore year, the ROTC program would no longer be in the school. I spent the next year still trying to do my best, my GPA went up to a 3.8, I had made the varsity drill team and I was still at the top of my ROTC class. Even though I knew what was coming at the end, I still tried to make the best of what I had. At the end of the year, I got a job that was best fit for my schedule with school. Once the last day of school came I knew the program that changed my life was no longer going to be here. At the beginning my junior year of school, I had to worry about one thing, the ACT. I maintained a GPA of 3.6 the entire school year, but my Pre-ACT score was still only at a 18. In the months prior to the real ACT I had bought a car. I had my own TV, my own cable TV, my own Xbox. While my ACT was not the best I was still enjoying my life. Then had came the news that would change my life

It felt sort of like in the book when Jeannette says, “We moved around like nomads” (Walls 19).
