Statement: no matter what, you’re going to go through hard times and you’ll learn from those in life.

Remember how in 1995 they cloned a certain little sheep named Dolly, and everyone was talking about it, and didn’t you wonder what would happen if it happened to a human. Well, in Nancy Farmer’s The House of the Scorpion is all about that, and if you don’t like those sort of things, well, what are you doing here I’m not going to waste your time. But if you do want to learn about this book, then keep reading. The book we’re going to be talking about is called House of the Scorpion, and I’d like to think it’s about growing up. Nancy Farmer’s The House of the Scorpion is about a clone named Matteo Alacran, but they call him

One part of growing up is to deal with people you don’t like. Now I’m currently reading the sequel, The Lord of Opium, and Matt is still fourteen years old and he’s still experiencing things that a child would and he’s still dealing with people he doesn’t like, but we’re here to talk about The House of the Scorpion so I can’t talk about that. In the book Matt had to deal with Tom, who is a real jerk to just about everyone. And when I say he’s a jerk, I mean that Matt had to deal with him. In childhood, we all have to deal with people we don’t like and that was the deal in this case. As Matt grows up, we see less of Tom because maybe he learned common sense, or maybe he was threatened by El Patron so much that he didn’t bother him any more (because El Patron made it clear that Matt was valuable to him). Another set of people he didn’t like were the keepers. Matt hated the keepers and thought he could do something about it, but they ruled over him and showed it by making the kids throw mud balls at him, and made the kids beat up Fedilito. Matt got even more mad when he found out that they were having parties and drinking laudanum and eating real food. More people that Matt hated were the Alacrans. The alacrans are known to be threatening, especially El Patron, and no one would dare mess with them. When Matt found out what he was really created for and realized that the …show more content…
To sum up the three main points that I have come up with, is Matt having to deal with people he doesn’t like, developing feelings for people. and learning new things. Matt Has had to deal with a handful of people that he didn’t like in the book, such as Tom. He has also developed feelings for others in the book and he has shone a great deal of that with Maria, and lastly he has learned about Opium, the Alacrans, and about El Patron (which really just goes along with the Alacrans). He has learned these three things throughout the book and will likely develop more of this in the sequel. So to conclude this very long probably five page paper, Matt has grown up a lot in the book and will most likely grow up more in the next books to come. Fun fact, this took me three days to write this and it took four study

As Matt struggled to to be accepted by anyone, the death of El Patron does not help with the fact. Throughout the story, when you thought people were beginning to accept Matt, someone would screw it up for him. Matt would constantly be harassed by several different types of people, including Tam Lin who was a boy the same age as Matt, but disrespectful and somewhat childish. Matt learned how to fight back and to not let other people bring him down. Even though the story made me sad, it did impact my life quite well.…

Mattie thinks through problems and doesn't ignore them now. For example, Mattie wanted to go the market when sickness was all about in the first few chapters of the book. Many chapters later, Mattie becomes more careful and cautious. The author shows this on page 185, “They would never comb her hair or tell her stories.” This shows that Mattie was cautious because when she about to return Nell she saw that the orphan house was too crowded and they wouldn't treat her well.…
