Growing up I was an only child with a single parent. My mom always did what she could to make me happy, but my mom and I were never really close at all. I always wanted a little brother or sister so I had someone to play with. But what I really wanted was for my mom to finally find someone to make her happy. To me, Helens family was very similar to mine besides the fact I lived with my grandparents as well.
The director of this movie wants to show the differences in families. Nobody is perfect to everyone, but they can be perfect in their own way. The main theme is to show that even if your family doesn’t have it all together in the end everything will still be okay because family is everything and things can change to fix for the better. Helens family is definitely out of proportion. Her son, Garry, barley talks because he is hiding something that only a guy could help him figure out, but his dad doesn’t want him to be in his life. Her daughter, Julie, is sexually active and is causing Helen a lot of stress. Helen is a single mom, juggling 2 children that she can 't get through to, a job, a house, and trying to make her and her children happy. Her family expresses strength for all that they go through and how things turn out. Throughout the movie Julies boyfriend moves in because Helen didn’t want her living with him after the huge fight they had and Garry just wants to go live with his dad. After getting off the phone with him Garry runs out of the house, hysterically,…
