Furthermore, I participated in many different charitable efforts, such as raising money for Cystic Fibrosis, listening to the stories of patients and learning about their interactions with physicians. What draws me to the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine’s Arizona Campus is its commitment to developing physicians dedicated to serving patients. The Science of Health Care Delivery curriculum draws attention to the political, social, and economic forces that affect health care. While serving as the Financial Director of the Campus Y, a public advocacy and service organization under the YMCA, I was immersed in the day-to-day operations of a non-profit by working on budget management and community partnership development. Understanding the logistics of the organization further strengthened my passion to support the…

Growing up in a small town gives you a scarce amount of opportunities throughout your life, but growing up in a small town that took no interest in the fine arts department was even harder, it’s the same old story; the arts budget gets cut so the sports kids can get matching uniforms and even socks. My main short term goal as of today, is to prove to the school board and district that the arts, such as theatre arts, art and band aren’t something that deserved to be taken as a joke. Last year my theatre troupe and I advanced to the state level of the One-Act play competition and that stunned the community. Goliad had never been to the state competition before and bringing that type of attention to the fine arts and its worth was something no…
