Essay On My Ideal Self

Decent Essays
Growing up, I lived in a third world country which gave me many experiences that most people today in a modern civilization would find strange. Some of these experiences included having to buy a live animal for the meat instead of purchasing the portion of meat already packaged, collecting rain water for fresh water whenever it rained, and also having to live without electricity most of the time due to tropical storms. After moving from my country to the United States of America I continued to gain many experiences, primarily experiences where I had to adapt to new things such as the norms in society that were different from what I previously knew. Furthermore, I also gained a lot of personal experience in regards to my emotions whiles growing up by being in a broken family. Since moving to America my family struggled financially which eventually caused tension between both my parents. They constantly had many arguments, sometimes they became really aggressive during arguments, so my siblings and I would rely on each other for things instead of troubling my parents. Eventually the tension between …show more content…
I do believe I have some overlap from my real self and my ideal self, in the areas where I am giving back to those who show kindness. I am currently on the path to becoming successful, as I’m pursuing a career in nursing, which is part of my ideal self because by being a nurse I will be able to make a difference in the world and peoples’ lives. It is as Carl Rogers himself says “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination” (Rogers blah blah); meaning that the ideal self and real self will not immediately overlap but rather it takes time to reach one’s ideal self, as it is constantly being shaped by the environment and experiences people

Throughout my life I have lived in three cultural distinct regions Lima Peru, White Plains New York and Baltimore Maryland. For the first two years of my life I lived in Lima, Peru and even though I never culturally adapted myself into the culture I would often visit for months and immerse myself into the culture. I can say with confidence that if I grew up in that culture I would not my be the same person I am today because of the fact that they are a collectivistic country and that would change my outlook on myself and the community around me. At around my second birthday my family and I decided to move to the United States in search of a better quality of life. While most of my family live in Baltimore, Maryland my father had already established himself in White Plains, New York a…

The worldview philosophy I most closely identify with is cathartic (psychological) transformation and empowerment. I believe the influencers that have caused me to seek authoritative careers and embark on achievements beyond limitations to validate my worth were my absent parents. I’ve experienced a lot of personal distress as a child growing up with the feeling of abandonment, insecurity and neglect. I felt my love ones had no logical reasoning for allowing me to grow into an adult feeling these type damaging emotions and cognitive illusions. According to Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”…

Growing up in a family that did not communicate that much, I was not very close with my mother of father. My mom and I did tend to talk more but not about personal things in our life. Me and my dad however always fought. I have a few good memories with him (he loved teaching me how to make home made biscuits.) which I always enjoyed on those rare occasions he was in a good mood. But, 90% of the time we were fighting.…

As a possible incoming student, who not only desires to, but needs to learn and attend a favorable campus, the things that I can offer and/or bring are my experiences and skills. I will try to help enrich the campus community as much as I can. Although, my experiences and interests may be easily overlooked by some because of the simple fact that I am “only seventeen,” and that everyone is still continuously evolving. I believe I can still bring something to only help enrich the community. A particular experience that I know differentiates from others is, being Hmong.…

Being raised with a different cultural background and learning to live on my own were the biggest factors in shaping me into the person I am today. My family immigrated to America as refugees of the Vietnam War. I was born in Africa and moved to America at the age of two. Little did I know that that single move would cause my life to meet the people I would meet and the opportunities that I would encounter. Once I came to America, my family and I moved to New Mexico so my father could complete his Ph.D. in mathematics. There two of my three younger brothers were born but New Mexico was only my backstory. At the end of my first-grade year, my family and I moved to Texas which was where I finally understood what I had been taught by parents: be kind, chose your words carefully, and work hard in everything.…

There are approximately 397,000 children in foster care in the United States of America currently and I used to be one of them. However, foster had not even been near the forefront of my mind that summer. The summer before I started my first year of high school, I had plenty of anxiety about the tall tale I invented in my own mind that stood before me. Stories about how hard high school were numerous and often regaled on the crowded bus ride home by high schoolers who seemed to have the knowledge of every wise teacher in history combined. which that scared me to death; I had always held my position as a good student who followed the rules of my middle school.…

It was a midnight near the end of June. Airport security grunted “f--k off” when my father and aunt approached him; taxi drives smoked while waiting for the next round of costumers. The air was damp, but that did not matter because, in my aunt’s garden, I saw fireflies for the first time. That was when I first landed in the U.S. I spent the next two months in the library trying to learn English by reading books: started with picture books for two-year olds in July, ended with picture books for five-year olds in August.…

Who am I? A question that would made you think well and might puzzle you out. Describing yourself is harder than describing someone because there are some areas in you that you are not certain of such as characteristics, personalities, and attitude. Also, there are things that other people would notice while we can’t because those things are the things we do that we are not conscious about. Talking about myself, I am Noreen Joyce F. Panganiban, a 16 year-old girl turning 17 this March 2016, from Carmona, Cavite.…

When people ask me to describe myself, I always draw a blank, I never know what to say, I’m caught off guard because I don’t really love talking about myself too often because I am someone who likes to listen rather than to talk. I always have to think about what I should say to make a good impression on whomever is asking me the question. There is a lot about me that you can see by just looking at me; I have short brunette hair, I’m short, hazel eyes, I’m quiet, and more. However, there are certain personality traits about me that every single person I know on a personal basis can tell you; I am candid, I am shy, and I am very loving. I am candid and by candid, I mean I am always very truthful and frank.…
