Growing Up After High School

Improved Essays
As a growing and learning student in the modern time, school and extra-curricular activities are a part of my everyday life. After waking up before the sun is up, getting ready, and beginning my day, school and tests follow. The ending of the school day carries on to fuse glass, music/ orchestra, and homework. One obstacle I have faced as growing up to be a well-rounded individual is to be accomplished in at least one field. My mother's side of the family are all musicians, and I have also started shaping my path on that road. I play the flute at the Sunset Youth Orchestra and take classes at the Community Music Center, where there is an annual Merit Scholarship for a free music education. I made it my goal to succeed and win that scholarship.

Upon enrolling in high school I realized that I could no longer put an average effort into easy class work and be rewarded with academic satisfaction. After joining the honors course along with band and the FFA, it was revealed to me that high school was a different culture than middle school. I quickly discovered that hard work would be required to be successful in everything I will ever do. Band demanded countless hours of practice, but I ultimately gained first chair in the top band, as well as squad leader over the trumpet section. Like band, the FFA required hours of dedication, but I distinguished myself from other FFA members.…

I was striving for an unattainable goal because I didn’t work towards any form of progression. On the other hand, being an instrumentalist has taught me the importance of daily goals, a good work ethic, and dedication. With that in mind, I am becoming more aware that music is not just the notes on an staff but also the zipping of a jacket and even the tumbling on a trampoline floor. I believe that my five year old self would be proud of who I am becoming because I have already completed my personal goals instead of lacking improvement in the shadows of someone…

If I have not challenged myself to practice and to confront challenges, I could not have become the principal player in our school’s jazz band and wind ensemble. After several breakthroughs, I decided to share my inspirations to the younger generation. This year, I am one of the coordinators of the Molding Musicians program supported by the Cypress Boys and Girls Club, teaching the fifth and sixth graders how to play an instrument. I appreciate the fact that my achievements did not come from an easy work, but rather a persistent standing against…

I plan to study one of the most beautiful things in the world and, eventually, teach this fine art called music. If it had not been for influences earlier in my life, I would have never made this decision. I also wouldn’t have the dream I picture in my future. Several years ago, I was introduced to music-playing. It quickly became something I held dearly, and now music has kindled into a fierce passion of mine.…

I was sixteen years old and on the verge of becoming just another high school dropout. My life had become overwhelmingly complicated due to an initial depression, which grew stronger as I gave up on much of what was important for me at the time. This downward spiral had to end. Finally, I withdrew from high school halfway through my sophomore year, but not before voluntarily choosing to attend a military school 600 miles away from home. A free program designed for dropouts and sponsored by the national guard, this was a place where I could recover all of my high school credits and set myself up for success.…

After a compelling conversation with my parents, they were thrilled to invest towards “the enrichment of my musical ability”. My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…

I have a deep rooted love for classic literature and a passion for acting and performance, especially Shakespearian theatre. I believe both literature and theatre are essential for humanity’s growth and evolution, as they provide an inspiration to others and allow us to think and express our feelings about current situations. Studying specific texts in Literature such as ‘Hamlet’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’ has developed my skills in analysing and interpreting texts including character, a skill that has and will come in useful when performing from scripts. I find Literature fascinating and enjoyable, as every individual has a variety of different views on a story.…

What To Do After High School Most high school seniors believe they have to go straight to college right after high school. College degrees are not needed in some career fields, so why even get a degree that you don’t need? I believe in certain circumstances, going to college is a waste of time. Many work forces are looking for people with experience, and students just coming out of college don’t have that experience that supervisors are looking for. Students are looking for jobs or careers which they will enjoy, and they do not want to have to go pay tons of money on an education that they might not even need.…
