He in my opinion is also the best president because he vetoed unnecessary and perhaps future damaging laws and or acts. During his two terms Cleveland vetoed 584 total acts. (414 his first term and 170 his second term.) One of the major acts he vetoed included the pension act created for United States veterans. Grover believed in the thought that “ Though the people support the government; the government should not support the people.” Which basically meant that the people of the United States should support and maintain the government, but the government should not support and or benefit certain people, groups (depending on race, gender, religion, etc) because it is incorrect and unconstitutional.
Another act he vetoed included a bill that would have given $10,000 worth of seeds to farmers is Texas. The reason why he did this was stated by himself to be because, “ Federal Aide in such cases encourages the expectation of paternal care on the part of the government and weakens the sturdiness of our national character.” This statement shows that Cleveland did infact care about the people but he honestly believed that they shouldn’t seek help from the government that they should instead work harder and prosper on their own, because if not they shall be and remain dependent on the government instead of
