Group Work Style Analysis

Every person has different strategies when it comes to learning and working either alone or collaboratively within a group. I consider myself a doer. I take pride in diving straight into the workload and scratching something off of my to-do list. Awareness of what is happening, who is getting what done, and the accuracy of all materials being produced within a group is extremely important to me. Because of how motivated I am in a group to complete the task at hand, I am quick to give my ideas and visions for the final product which makes me the usual group leader. Being a leader and a doer can be a bad combination and have a negative effect on the other group members because my fast thinking and rush to begin can leave them behind. My intrapersonal learning preference supports and connects this group work style. I tend to think about how I can relate to information given to me and independently reflect on my thoughts and feelings about a subject. My visions for group projects almost always reflect my own views on how the information should be portrayed and the information usually never strays from my opinions because I lead the group based on those opinions. As an intrapersonal learner, I am sure to set a goal and a plan to reach that goal. When working with a team, I do all that I can to make sure the entire group reaches the goals I set …show more content…
When it comes to successful intelligence, I have strong creative and practical thinking skills. My tendency to chase new experiences, not fear risky behavior, and explore unique views on subjects is driven from my adventurous and cogitative personality. Because I am motivated to understand how things work and enjoy work that is intellectually challenging, my mind is triggered to produce new ideas and problem solving methods to assist my constant pondering mind in coming to

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

Three important skills that are needed when working in groups are cooperation, and leadership. When I am around a small group, I have no fear in discussing with every member, compared to when I am in a larger group where I have issues speaking with everyone. In smaller groups, it is easier for me to pay attention to everyone’s idea. My ability to pay attention have helped me become a better listener, respond to other group members ideas with full understanding. To be involved in a small group, members of that group must have the ability to cooperate.…

While reading “Using Collaboration, Co-Teaching, and Question Answer Relationships to Enhance Content Area Literacy” by Nicole Fenty, I had a chance to learn about some strategies that can be used while co-teaching with a Special Education teachers and a general education teacher. Collaboration is the key to success in a general education setting where there are students who have an IEP because the teachers need to be on the same page of what the students need to learn while Co-Teaching. It is important that each teacher shares the responsibility of teaching the students. This sharing of responsibility allows for teachers to become more knowledgeable in their subjects which, allows them to teach the areas they know the best. Being knowledgeable…

Another aspect of the article that Hays’ focused her attention to was group work practice, she strongly believed that group workers need to be mindful about social justice components that are present in the group. She mentioned six different recommendations for group work practice, the one that another author, Arredondo, mentioned on was ‘expand the scope of group work’. The main purpose of having this in the article was to show how crucial it is for group workers to continue learning about cultures. As well as to find new ways of developing and leading the group. Arredondo adds on to this recommendation by stating, “counselors must take on the worldview of community-based change agents and apply skills of empowerment to support others who…

I learned quickly that you must support yourself mentally in order to provide for others. In one activity, we had to create a project to present to the class, and my group was the first one to go. We had no examples to base our ideas off of, so our group was working individually, but trying to push our individualism all together. I knew that we needed to work together in order to create a project worth presenting. We began by asking for each person's ideas and their plans on how the project should go, and we all learned that we may have had different ideas, but our main goal was all the same; to create an interactive presentation that a class would enjoy.…

According to Jacobs et al. (2012) seven categories of groups, the discussion group setting would pose the most challenge for me as a counselor/facilitator. I foresee this challenge based on my own strong dominate personality and persona. “Discussion group leaders primarily need to be aware of any member who tries to dominate or distract the group” (p.42). I will admit I often present a strong and powerful demeanor solely based on upbringing and career choice.…

On Monday, May 23rd, at 3:30pm, I presented my WISE project. That day was very hectic for me because I had little time to prepare for the presentation because the past week had been "hell week" for the spring play, meaning I had rehearsals and performances all week long. It took all of Sunday to recreate the outline that I had lost when my computer broke, gather photos, put the presentation together, and create my presentation packet. So, I had no time to actually rehearse and tweak my presentation until the day of my presentation. Looking back, I wish I had budgeted my time a little better to help my presentation run smoother, however I felt that I did the best I could with the time that I had to prepare.…

From my experience, the bricks that lay the perfect foundation for groupthink are usually low levels of motivation to complete the tasks, a lack of individualism within the group, no guidelines for decision making, and the fact that the group has not had the time to form into a team. The low levels of motivation can be caused by many things when it comes to college students and it can be different for each person in the group. With this being said, there is no one guaranteed way to raise motivation, as one person could be motivated by the grade and another could be motivated by their need to improve their skills. The next component that I mentioned was a lack of individualism or personalization within the group. What I ultimately mean is that there is no sense of self when you are in a group with people that you most likely don’t know.…

The first questions that pop onto mind when studying Intelligence and Creativity are ‘what are the differences and similarities of the two?’ as well as ‘what are their relationships?’ For years, this topic has been a debacle for many researchers and psychologists. Most have thought “(1) creativity is a subset of intelligence; (2) intelligence is a subset of creativity; (3) creativity and intelligence are overlapping sets; (4) creativity and intelligence are essentially the same thing (coincident sets); and (5) creativity and intelligence bear no relation at all to each other (disjoint sets).” (Sternberg, 1999, p.251).…

In terms of leadership style, I would consider myself more towards social leadership that focused more on teamwork, resolving disputes and providing support (Myers, 2013). Instead of directing the other group members on what to do, I distributed my authority with my group members by giving them the opportunity to voice their ideas as well as involving them in decisions making processes. I believed that group members felt more appreciated when their suggestions were acknowledged which then enhanced more creative and productive thoughts. This was due to the fact that brainstorming that involved the entire group encourages and stimulates ideas from different individuals (Nemeth, Personnaz, Personnaz & Goncalo,…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Introduction The human brain can be divided in terms of its structure as well as function. Structurally under the cranium of any human being exists a brain with two plainly visible parts, each about the size of a fist, known as the right and the left hemispheres of the cerebral cortex. Even though these two hemispheres appear identical in terms of structure, they perform distinct functions. Split-brain studies and cognitive research has indicated that the left hemisphere is associated with functions such as language, conceptualization, analysis and classification.…
