Group Work Research Paper

Group work -through my experiences- can be good if you are having fun, staying on task, and everyone does their part. Some examples of how this could possibly be beneficial are life skills, lessening stress, and making the class/project more enjoyable. As I discuss how group work causes more help than harm I hope you take my criteria in consideration in later classes. Group work can teach people many real life skills. Such as Communication, compromise, and cooperation - which can help someone throughout life when meeting new people, understanding others differing opinions, or dealing with annoying people just throughout life-. With communication people learn to listen better and phrase their words to get their point across. As well

Groupthink refers to the kind of thinking in which members of a group seek concurrence because of cohesiveness among group members whose critical thinking becomes severely impaired as a result of it. They do not seek alternatives to courses of action when presented with policy making decisions, and instead, they are more likely to engage in irrational and dehumanizing actions directed against outgroups. This phenomenon is very strong and common place, but can be very dangerous because group members are often driven by the desire to have social conformity because of social pressures exerted by members of the group. In order to maintain the cohesiveness of the group, objections raised by a group members are more often than not subjected to internal pressure in the name of achieving group consensus. In most instances, maintaining group loyalty is the catalyst that leads to group members supporting policies that might detrimental to the nation.…

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

Communication Essay Assignment: Groupthink Groupthink is a theory that aims to explain, “[. . .] group failures—decisions that in hindsight seem incredibly poor, ill advised, and generally incompetent” (226). Groupthink usually develops when the collective members of a group have similar opinions, attitudes, and beliefs that stifle the creativity and opposing viewpoints of those existing outside the group.…

Another aspect of the article that Hays’ focused her attention to was group work practice, she strongly believed that group workers need to be mindful about social justice components that are present in the group. She mentioned six different recommendations for group work practice, the one that another author, Arredondo, mentioned on was ‘expand the scope of group work’. The main purpose of having this in the article was to show how crucial it is for group workers to continue learning about cultures. As well as to find new ways of developing and leading the group. Arredondo adds on to this recommendation by stating, “counselors must take on the worldview of community-based change agents and apply skills of empowerment to support others who…

My experience has been interesting, positive, and at the same time rewarding. My very first experience with working in group was couple of years ago during a final year project, in my country of birth. The project was in community medicine, and involved repeated trip to a rural community by my group to access their health status, and needs. We had many challenges, but overcame them all as a group. I learnt the act of collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making by consensus building, and most importantly; comradeship.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

My first reason teachers shouldn’t assign group projects is that there is a risk of kids misbehaving together. Either with friends or other kids, students become distracted from the task at hand and fool around. This could lead to disruption in the group and even the class. Students could end up in trouble or receive bad grades due to goofing off and fooling around.…

There 's A Lot of Difference Between Listening and Hearing Over the course of working on this semester long project with my group I have learned that my views regarding how I believed the team would function were inaccurate and have changed due to not aligning with how the group actually functioned. Tuckman’s stages of team development are very evident in our group as everyone was initially very open and energetic regarding the project, however very quickly we progressed into storming. The speed at which the dynamic of the group changed leaves me in awe looking back and curious as to how we accomplished anything. A few of the things I have learned from working in a group is that not all voices are heard the same way, there is more alienation…

In some ways, it can make your paper-writing easier because you get to hear other people’s opinions, and your share of the total outcome is usually small. In other ways, it can make your process of finishing your paper frustrating because you and your group members do not share the same thoughts. I think that during any group project, you will go through times with frustration and other times with enjoyment. It was the same case for me for this group project, and in this paper, I will go through what was successful and what could have been done better in our group.…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

We have 5 members in our group of whom 2 were male, and 3 were female. After we were assigned the project, we all came together, and made a commitment to do it better, and succeed at it. Firstly, we welcomed ideas from everyone, without setting any criteria. Our project was to reinvent any product with more features that will be helpful for public. It was a very challenging project because we were to redesign a particular product, which should be more appealing to the costumers in terms of features, solution of particular problems, availability, and cost.…

In fact, my group members were very helpful and whenever one of us had trouble with something we would all participate in solving her problem or giving her helpful tips to solve it. By helping, supporting and motivating each other it made the project easier to solve and it helped us in achieving our work in the most effective time and ways. Here are some points I loved about the experience, firstly being a part of a group helped in developing my skills and we were able to achieve more work than in working individually. Secondly, we had more time to manage and plan. Thirdly I developed more communicating skills and team commitment and also I had more exchange of information between myself and our group members.…
