Group Work In High School

Improved Essays
During my time in high school there were many occasions I worked in groups with my fellow peers. I had two instances in which one went amazing and one went horribly wrong. The first being the one what went horribly wrong was a group project in my economics class during my senior year. I worked in a group of five and our task was to figure out how to survive on a random set budget that was provided by the teacher. During that time on the project I and one other member of the group were the only ones to contribute to the project. At the end of the project after me and my only contributive partner had finished the project the other three wanted me and her to credit them to the work. I objected because in my mind I was thought how this is a team effort when it was just two fifths of the group working. The way I …show more content…
Other methods I could have used was instead of everyone doing everything I could have taken charge and broke the project into five separate parts. This would have most likely changed my team’s attitude towards the project as a whole and instead of thinking of it as one massive project it would have been five separate portions that could be easily tackled. This team also had another problem we were all different and sometimes this effects a team if someone thinks they are better because of race gender and so forth. For the good team I worked with it was during the same year as the group above. This group consisted of three people and the task at hand was to do research on an

Working in groups can be verily problematic, especially if everyone has contradicting ideas. The High Five Messages Change Is Constant In the game My Personal GPS, I had to guide an avatar through a series of games that tested my learning skills and work habits. At the end of the level, you either passed and were awarded a key, or failed and had to retry the game. For some of these games, I didn 't receive a key on my first try and had to repeat the level until my skills matched my evaluation. This caused me to have to rethink my avatar’s actions and adapt to the different situations I was put in.…

In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

My experience has been interesting, positive, and at the same time rewarding. My very first experience with working in group was couple of years ago during a final year project, in my country of birth. The project was in community medicine, and involved repeated trip to a rural community by my group to access their health status, and needs. We had many challenges, but overcame them all as a group. I learnt the act of collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making by consensus building, and most importantly; comradeship.…

Teamwork in this particular task was straightforward and we had no problems in terms of participation and contribution. Having said that there was also no 'social loafing ' within my team, as Latane et al., 1979 argued was a problem in teams, whereby people were louder individually than they were in groups (chapter 6, pg. 180). Rather I felt that everyone had an equal…

Individualism vs Collectivism "It takes two flints to make a fire." --Louisa May Alcott The statement above embodies the notion that working together is ideal and efficient when it comes to taking on a very cumbersome or an intensely hard task. Here the division of labor comes into play and in a little time, the intensely hard task is completed and in some cases the benefits of working together supersedes that of working alone, but the whole idea of collectivism or group work is built on the foundation of individualism. Collectivism is defined as the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual however it is the individuality of a person that makes a group work.…

At the beginning of the semester, we were assigned a team project. At first, the assignment sounded difficult to me because it was just at the beginning of the semester and I did not know my classmates or the team members assigned to my group. With the help of the teachers I was able to meet and get to know my team members by their names, we exchanged our phone numbers and email address to ease communication. In our first meeting, we were able to select the team leader, come up with the rules to govern the team and also plan the times we were going to be holding the team meeting every week. In our second session, we were able to come up with the project, discuss the project then divided and allotted tasks to each member.…

In high school I was highly involved on and off of campus; student government, art club, decision making team, college programs, etc. I participated in these particular groups because they were important in the sense that I was able to share my ideology to a group. Although I was a recognizable student, well respected and knowledgeable about specific groups on campus, I felt like I did not belong in the school. My physics teacher said that it was shocking that a student so highly committed to roles and known on campus could feel isolated even when I made “decisions” and lead a group. The sense of not belonging does not mean that one wants to detach from everyone else’s ideas or that one is a self-centered person not following a majority or…

In fact, my group members were very helpful and whenever one of us had trouble with something we would all participate in solving her problem or giving her helpful tips to solve it. By helping, supporting and motivating each other it made the project easier to solve and it helped us in achieving our work in the most effective time and ways. Here are some points I loved about the experience, firstly being a part of a group helped in developing my skills and we were able to achieve more work than in working individually. Secondly, we had more time to manage and plan. Thirdly I developed more communicating skills and team commitment and also I had more exchange of information between myself and our group members.…
