Group Work Assignment Analysis

If I were a high school teacher planning a group work assignment, I would assign random grouping to maximize student achievement. Although students that compose the groups are randomly selected, I will allow some tweaking to ensure that my fast learners are distributed in all groups. This will ensure that slow learners are equally helped when needed. My idea can be best described as heterogeneous grouping, not homogenous, grouping if my purpose is to maximize student achievement, both academically and socially. If my goals are acceleration and extensive intervention, then I would use homogenous grouping by ability. Anyways, I am aware that random grouping or heterogeneous grouping is not effective if I do not use it with fidelity and if I do not understand who my students are. Teenagers lose motivation when they are compared as less performing with others. This is not academically and socially healthy as this will only help students conclude that they are second-rate and will discourage them to further discover and use their other potentials and strengths. No matter how diverse our students are, they all have their own strengths that, even at adolescence stage, may remain hidden and need to be discovered. Another reason why I am for random grouping or heterogeneous grouping is so that my teenage students will have the opportunity to mingle and work with classmates who are not necessarily their friends. This is training them to socialize and work with people who are strange to them, because this is the kind of environment they will live in the future. This is improving their interpersonal skills, which are their best asset to survive and be successful in their future

In 1968 she graduated with an AAS degree, considering the fact that back in the day women did not have many opportunities to be successful and equality was not apparent. Due to our own human nature, people learn the best through their experiences, both positive and negative. It is important for teenagers to understand the process of maturing, especially through how their actions can affect other people. In high school, we were constantly being told that we could not work in groups because we would get too loud. In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

While reading “Using Collaboration, Co-Teaching, and Question Answer Relationships to Enhance Content Area Literacy” by Nicole Fenty, I had a chance to learn about some strategies that can be used while co-teaching with a Special Education teachers and a general education teacher. Collaboration is the key to success in a general education setting where there are students who have an IEP because the teachers need to be on the same page of what the students need to learn while Co-Teaching. It is important that each teacher shares the responsibility of teaching the students. This sharing of responsibility allows for teachers to become more knowledgeable in their subjects which, allows them to teach the areas they know the best. Being knowledgeable…

The Group Video Assignment has been the most creative assignment I have completed during my post-secondary education thus far. My favourite aspect of the assignment is its requirement to not only utilize an analytical approach in determining why European states are having difficulty cooperating in some areas, but also its requirement to utilize a creative approach to present the rationale. Regarding the division of the work for the assignment, it was more or less equally distributed between Josh and I. For the creative component of the assignment, we decided to record a parody of Rick Mercer’s popular rants (Josh came up with this idea and we planned on the method of execution together). Regarding the script, we wrote our specific parts individually and in the end, I put the script together, edited it, and included a synopsis to be used as reference in the case it becomes difficult for the viewers to distinguish the words of our rant.…

The topic for our community group assignment was chair yoga. Based on the research articles we have gathered, there were many physical and psychological benefits for the older adult population to practice yoga. These benefits included increasing strength and balance, as well as decreasing stress and depression for older adults. Interestingly, when we asked the elderly participants at Seashore Gardens about their knowledge on the topic, many of the participants only knew about the term ‘yoga’ but had little to no knowledge on the practice of yoga. Working together with my group members for this assignment has been an interesting experience because our working style and personality was so diverse.…

I disagree with the research stating that students should be grouped homogenously as sparingly as possible. Both forms of grouping have their benefits. When reflecting on homogenous grouping I think of Tiered intervention, where students are put into small groups based on their academic level. Homogenous grouping allows the teacher to quickly identify the strengths and weaknesses of each individual. Students are given more individualized attention, which cater to their needs.…

I am writing to inform you that the team believes your contributions towards this project is below par. You gave no insight during the first team discussion, did not attend the follow up meeting, used another member’s work without their consent, and gave excuses for not completing your given assignments. The team strongly believes that you are not fulfilling your duties as a member, and believe that your current attitude reflects that you do not want to help on the project at all. I want to have you do your part in this design project without any member feeling they have been treated unfairly in the assignment of work. I want to inform you of possible solutions for this conflict to be corrected, and would hope that these solutions seem reasonable to you.…

Each individual student’s progress and success should be the fundamental goal of every school system. The rules applied in a school are valuable and need be enforced in order to effectively get the students to perform at the best of their ability. Teenagers need to be shown that they are a world full of potential. There are various ways to go about meeting this goal for a school; it just takes a willing authority figure to undertake it. A later starting time, teachers focusing on their subject’s importance and an emphasis on all school activities will create a more efficient environment for each student’s high school experience.…

I would like to give a comprehensive feedback on each members’ contribution and behaviour towards the assignment, as group dynamics affected the work in progress and the final submission, in particular Trent Dyer’s behaviour towards the other members of the group. I think that a path to better assess the contribution of each member should be useful, even if everybody agreed upon and collaborated to the final work, that could have been better developed and more carefully revised if there was a positive climate of collaboration. I am available for a meeting to examine in depth the case if required. However, I have just written in depth the appraisal as I think that a real understanding of the group dynamics is important and learning objectives…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Pinker believes that people have so much trouble communicating because people are very sensitive and words can carry a lot of unnoticed weight behind them. Words are not the only thing that can be perceived in a variety of ways, however, as I have noticed that tone can be completely misread as well. Misinterpreted tone can turn a casual, sarcastic comment into a rude jab, or an honest compliment into an inappropriate come-on. Conversations are like playing Jenga, one wrong move and the entire relationship can begin to crumble.…
