Reflection Of A Groups In Small Groups

During the group some of the members, especially Mo and Kelsey, helped provide suggestions for making the recipe and, or they helped others in the group complete tasks or who were struggling to cut tomatoes, like Mackenzie. By helping others in the group, with some verbal cues from the leaders to collaborate and help others, I think all the group members, especially Kelsey and Mo, could see how efficient the group worked together to make the pico de gallo. This collaboration, along with the individual responsibilities, I think helped all the group members see how they could help volunteer in a community setting where they would work with others but still play a vital role in the end product. While some members, like Kelsey and Brayden, explained that they liked working by themselves to tailor recipes based on how they like it, this similarity provided an opportunity for us leaders to point out different ways the members could still benefit and spend time in the community even if the members make the food on their own. For instance, we mentioned that Kelsey and Brayden could volunteer their time making meals for friends who may have lost a loved one, or for older people in the community who are homebound and receive meals from the program, Meals on …show more content…
Out of habit, I feel compelled to assist others when I see first signs of doubt, trouble, or confusion in someone’s verbal tone or nonverbal cues without providing that person time to problem-solve or have other members help first. Additionally, I would like to be more attentive to what is being discussed rather than worrying if we are meeting all the objectives in each of the Cole’s Seven Steps. For instance, I think I repeated a question that Lauren asked, but in a different way, because I was nervous and tried looking ahead at other questions on the paper rather than be in the

I'm certainly not the person who wants the challenge I will seek help and should my technical reasoning just fail me completely I will once again seek help and or pass the task on if possible. I use my CONFLUENT as needed I do like doing things my way and at times I don't like to follow the rules because I may think my way is better but being the risk taker and having lack of structure and not doing things accordingly can ultimately set up for failure in some cases and I've learned that in my past by making those very mistakes and that's not a pattern I choose to be in the habit of. I've learned so much about my learning style in this chapter and it's basically things that I already knew about myself but wasn't able to articulate them properly. By learning these patterns I can see how they will be effective and help me in my life as far as work and my personal relationships.…

Over the last three years, Nancy had taught Charity how to put together a good meal, oftentimes having very little to work with as far as ingredients go. They gathered herbs from the herb garden, picked vegetables and dug potatoes from the spring and fall gardens, and even ventured out into the forest to gather different things at different times of the year that did not grow in their gardens; nuts, berries, bay leaves, wild sage, greens, and even medicinal herbs that they either preserved or dried, according to what it was. And, Nancy taught her how to care for her family, other than feeding them and making sure they had clean clothes and beds to sleep…

This team taught me that hard work, determination and time management are key to maintaining a sophisticated life. Throughout my high school career I was a member of the Community Housing Works program, which consisted of hundreds of volunteering hours towards; tutoring elementary school children in addition to teaching them the basics of English. Hands on work with these children reminded me of myself ten years ago, struggling with school assignments that I had no clue how to solve. For our civic engagement project for the Redefining Leadership class, my group, Stephanie, Hailee, Christina, and I, decided to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven, Connecticut on a Thursday. Before we got there, we did not know what to expect, but afterwards, we truly felt grateful that we helped out a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House is a charity house that keeps families close to their family members that are being treated at a nearby hospital. We spoke with someone who works at the House and she told us that eight families were there on that day. We were able to see some people and did what we could to help out.…

Journal: Self-Assessment As a result of utilizing skills in the mock counseling video such as attending behaviors, encouragers, paraphrase with checkout, and reflecting of feeling, I was able to gain better insight into my ability to apply these skills within the helping relationship. Specifically, I came to realize that it is necessary for me to be more aware of my verbal and nonverbal encouragers such as nodding and saying “Mhmm”. Honestly, I felt as if my nodding became distracting despite the fact that I utilized it to ensure the client knew that they were being heard and that I was interested to hear more of their story. While I do believe that I was successful in conveying interest and warmth, I could have utilized a more diverse range…

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

I recently attended a group observation at Project Point of Light in Shippenville, Pennsylvania. The overall experience was a positive one. It was very interesting to talk to the members and hear their sides of the story. They truly are just human beings and I believe that meeting with them and having an opportunity to talk to them has somewhat changed my view of sex offenders overall. Though I am still confused by their behaviors, which is somewhat difficult to overcome, but I am more understanding of who they are because they are only human and they know they have made a mistake.…

One skill I used often than others was the strengths-based approach. I wanted Liz to feel like she took the right first step. I specifically told her that it was great to have her in session to make her feel empowered and assured that we will work together to find solutions (0:20). I also used this skill after explaining that we were a generalist practice and despite being unable to diagnose illness, I was still going to do my best that I can to help (0:57). I felt she expressed a feeling of guilt when she clarified that she did not want to be stigmatized, I was able to remind her that we will find solutions and that I was a reliable person.…

Individual Reflection Paper As humans, it is within our inborn nature to interact and cooperate with others. This is due to the fact that no one individual is perfect and capable in all ways. We are able to complement each other’s inadequacy through working as a group, hence this is why collective efforts often made things easier as compared to individual effort. While working in groups, we will experience changes in group dynamics and processes.…
