Group Reflection

One conversation that I started during my group discussion time was when I made a connection. The connection was when Junior had a lot of deaths that occurred throughout the book, especially people close to him, and I could relate to that because my old dog named Shay recently died from natural causes. As soon as I said this, specifically Nick and Kevin said that they also had loved ones die from natural causes. Although that they didn’t have a pet that died, they were still very close to them and that’s what makes the connection so accurate between my group and the book.
Another conversation that started by another group member was when Nick said that he liked to draw cartoons in his free time and so does Arnold. When im bored in class I like to draw cartoons, but besides that I don't ever draw them. I found this conversation interesting because we slowly started to talk about all types/forms of art rather than just drawing. We started talking about

They struggle to get their mind straight because they don't have any of their friends with them at school or even near them anymore, and they’re trying to become friends with other people, but they fight and struggle with the fact that they’re starting all over again like a blank sheet of paper waiting to be filled out. Their personality changes dramatically because they are now shy or timid around others because they don't know anyone. In the book, Arnold faces this to because he went from Wellpinit to Reardan high school, he doesn’t make a lot of friends the first few days because of external features such as skin color, abnormally large head and feet, and even his horrific lisp. After these few slow and horrific days, Arnold decides to punch his “bully” in the face and gained respect for himself so now he doesn't get picked on, and this gave him hope that he could make new

At least once in your life you have probably heard something along the lines of, “stand up for what you believe in even if you are standing alone,” or, “do what is right, even if you are doing it alone.” It is common advice given, but not as common followed. Many people choose to side with whatever most people are siding with, often because they are scared to do it alone or draw attention. As shown in both “In the Silence” by Peggy S. Curry and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, characters are brave because they stand up for both themselves and what they believe in, even when standing alone. First, in “In the Silence”, Jimmy takes a stand, talking back to Angus Duncan.…

For Arnold bullying really changes him. He is constantly dealing with people making fun of him on the reservation and at Rearden. Bullying gave Arnold the strength to overcome anyone and anything that is thrown his way. Without everything that happened to Arnold he wouldn’t be the same person he is now. If he had been born looking normal who knows if he would ever considered going to Rearden or if he would have just lived the rest of his life on the reservation like most people did.…

For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…

I recently attended a group observation at Project Point of Light in Shippenville, Pennsylvania. The overall experience was a positive one. It was very interesting to talk to the members and hear their sides of the story. They truly are just human beings and I believe that meeting with them and having an opportunity to talk to them has somewhat changed my view of sex offenders overall. Though I am still confused by their behaviors, which is somewhat difficult to overcome, but I am more understanding of who they are because they are only human and they know they have made a mistake.…

    Team Meeting Reflection

As I reflect on my internship I realize it actually started during the summer, my principal asked that I be involved in the Summer Leadership meetings. The school representatives for these meetings were the principal who is a first-year principal with a high school background, the assistant principal who is a first-year administrator and another assistant principal who has spend most of his time in high school, the multi-tiered system of support coach, who is also new to the school and me. This combination was very interesting because I was the only one who had any experience at the school. This combination of administrators has made my internship a bit difficult, simply because they are learning their own roles and responsibilities, so it makes it difficult for them to assign me any of those roles and responsibilities. I have often felt as they feel I am…

This is visible when Arnold finally confesses to Penelope that he is not in fact middle class but, poor. Instead of walking away from him, like he thought she would, Penelope, broke down in tears out of sympathy and sadness. At this moment, I think Arnold knew that even if he was poor or not, he had friends who accepted him, and so he finally accepted himself. Arnold is Indian, and he was never ashamed of the fact, but when he starts to attend Reardan High, he experiences racism. The continuous racism and hurtful comments on the reservation lowers his self esteem, and the feeling of self hatred starts creeping into his mind.…

In every group, structured or not, the group process has many effects on the overall group. This paper will look at the group processes of our cohort, the interactions between subgroups, and the way that it has affected the overall distance learning cohort. It will look at themes which have played out during our most recent trip to campus, namely subgroups formed, as well as the difference in anxiety levels between the foundation and concentration groups and the behaviors that were demonstrated. Next it will identify and discuss instances of here-and-now moments within the groups and consider the process commentary that we saw emerge and reflect on possible meanings for it. Finally it will depict how the groups illustrated the concepts of…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…

Individual Reflection Paper As humans, it is within our inborn nature to interact and cooperate with others. This is due to the fact that no one individual is perfect and capable in all ways. We are able to complement each other’s inadequacy through working as a group, hence this is why collective efforts often made things easier as compared to individual effort. While working in groups, we will experience changes in group dynamics and processes.…
