Group Process And Practice Summary

Summary one Marianne Schneider Corey, Gerald Corey, and Cindy Corey authors of Group Process and Practice, the discussions, and research materials have offer me an approach to the group process, where theory and practice in group work can be observed. The readings help me see how experience people apply key elements of the group process in group work. The group process has guidelines that are broken down in the group process sequence. I like how the group process has been broken down since while I am learning what is the group process, I am also learning how a counselor can help the group members in the different parts of the group process.
Literature Review “Counseling provides a space vital to supporting life, growth, and healing. It is a space within which hope is often sought in the face of an uncertain future” (Larsen, Edey, & Lemay, 2007). The aim of group work is to give individuals tools that will help them in their daily lives. With group work a wide range of clients can be aid, since it can be used in a variety of settings, and it can be cost-effective (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2010). According to Spence, and Smale, (2015), the group process consist of “common features include attention to facilitators … the acknowledgement of and trust in the potentiality of both individuals and the group itself, to the demonstration and engendering of empathy and congruent functioning within the group.
