Group Observation

After watching the presentation on team work and being in groups, it taught me the things that are necessary in order for a group to be successful. In order to be successful in a group, the group needs to plan everything out in advance, they need to communicate, and have a leader who can take the initiative. Notably when watching the presentation some of the observations I recognized included planning everything within the first two meetings. Throughout the presentation they did not say which member received which roles, or even set a proper meeting time. Instead all they did was bicker and hardly got any work done. In order to succeed in a group every little thing such as meeting times and dates, team roles, goals and deadlines. These should be made within the first meetings in order to make sure that everything gets done in proper timing in order to get that 4.0. In the GB 112 group I am in we covered all the basics within the first meeting, and even have a punishment settled out if a group member decides to miss a meeting without an …show more content…
Communication is key in a group. Group members need to communicate at all times, talk or message any of the group members. In fact they need to talk to make sure that everyone is doing their job. If one member is not active or does not do an equal amount of work, then the other members of the group should speak to the individual. Communication is also key in groups because then the main goals such as getting a 4.0 on the project is clear to every member. While viewing the presentation the group was hardly doing this. Between the first and second meeting, two members of the group did most of the work and the other 3 members had no idea because they did not talk much. Also due to not communicating or efficient planning the group fell behind two weeks. If they communicated properly, then there would be no need to split up into mini groups or have one person do more work than

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

Working in groups has taught me to trust that work will get done and made me realize that I am nt in control of everything. The hardest part, for this project specifically, was to find a time where everyone was able to meet up and discuss the case outside of class hours. Ultimately, however, my group…

I recently attended a group observation at Project Point of Light in Shippenville, Pennsylvania. The overall experience was a positive one. It was very interesting to talk to the members and hear their sides of the story. They truly are just human beings and I believe that meeting with them and having an opportunity to talk to them has somewhat changed my view of sex offenders overall. Though I am still confused by their behaviors, which is somewhat difficult to overcome, but I am more understanding of who they are because they are only human and they know they have made a mistake.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

Regarding the team dynamics, the literature provides proof that our group have shown several positive aspects for producing successful teamwork. Commitment and clear communication have shown to be key in achieving goals. I can personally say teamwork understanding and new set of ideas have been created. One area considered upon reflection is to have allowed my group members more opportunity to express their ideas and opinions. I felt like I suggested ideas quickly, and strong about my opinions.…

Group work is very different than what I am use to. I am use to working on projects alone and knowing where I stand. I have always been a shy person and have relied on myself for anything I am working on in school. This particular project really brought me out of my comfort zone and showed me it is okay to ask for help. Marvin Wright's Family Literacy Night was different to say the least.…

For our final project in class group four, that consisted of myself, and three other people spent the last five weeks on our presentation. This process involved weekly group meetings, establishing rules, planning and implementing duties, researching topics, presentation, and ending the group. This process over the last few weeks proved to be challenging and rewarding for the team. One of the most complicated factors that the group experienced started at week three where member B could not attend the weekly group meeting due to a personal obligation she had to attend.…

As I close my locker I can hear the faint buzzing of the group message of the homecoming group. Before I can succumb and grab my phone I walk away feeling lost and uneasy. This allows me to look up and observe what is happening around me. There are a lot of people on their phones- looking at twitter, snapchat, or their messages. There is a group of boys huddled around talking in hushed voices outside of the upper 500 pod.…

Communication is the process of creating, sending, receiving and interpreting messages between people (Adams & Galanes 2009, p. 55). For effective communication and group functioning, there needs to be consistency in the words and tone of the message and the non verbal body language; there needs to be a attention to listening and understanding what is being communicated, and asking questions if the message is not clear (UniSA 2015). It enables different viewpoints to be presented to the group in regards to the task, and it allows for the clear communication of ideas and feelings between group members (Johnson & Johnson 2009, p. 25). Listening is a four-step process which begins with perceiving a message, interpreting it, choosing what it means, and then responding to it (Adams and Galanes 2009). Hence, listening is a critical component of communication, as it allows the communication to exist in two dimensions.…

Prior to the systems project, I had not worked on a project with groups greater than half a dozen members, whereas each systems project group consisted of around 30 group members. Many groups decided to split the group into smaller subgroups. Through this experience, I came to appreciate the importance of communication in a group. At the start of the project week, the division of tasks amongst the subgroups were not very clear cut.…
