Group Observation

As I close my locker I can hear the faint buzzing of the group message of the homecoming group. Before I can succumb and grab my phone I walk away feeling lost and uneasy. This allows me to look up and observe what is happening around me. There are a lot of people on their phones- looking at twitter, snapchat, or their messages. There is a group of boys huddled around talking in hushed voices outside of the upper 500 pod. The last thing I see is a couple huddled against the wall across from my classroom. I sit in the corner with my group KJ, Kellie, Ksenia, and Kloe. We have been working on this project for the whole week, today is the day that we have to present it. The group before us is finishing their new twist on obstacle courses with …show more content…
After I have checked off everything on my check list I feel a tad more confident having everything prepared. We all walk up to the front, Kellie is holding up the picture she drew, Ksenia and Kloe are tied to each other ready to show the class how the sport works, KJ and I stand in the middle with our scripts to explain what our sport is. I feel my palms start to sweat and my throat feels dry. I don’t like being up here with everyone staring at me. KJ introduces the sport and tells them that it is called “Ultimate Tied Soccer”. I close my eyes and take a deep breath then start with giving the instructions on how to play. I focus on reading slow enough and loud enough so that everyone can hear what I am saying. Once I finish KJ is telling the class the rules that they would have to follow, how many players are allowed on the field at a time, etc. Then it is my turn again I read the benefits of playing this sport and finish with the slogan, “Keep your enemies closer because you’re tied to them anyway!” Kloe and Ksenia start to show the class how to play hitting a bunch of desks as the both try to get the ball. They hit the ball which flies out into the hallway narrowly missing a kid walking by. Then we are finished we go and sit back at our

Upon successful receipt of the ball, they are to throw to first base, then run over to the shortstop position. The drill is repeated for shortstop, second base, and a spot halfway between first and second where the hit is a slow roller towards first. I cut through the air as if the ball was ripping each particle to shreds. I ran as fast as I could punching my foot off of each base, ready for the next one. Just as I thought the ball was going over the fence, it hits the top and rolls over to the center fielder. This makes me run harder. The adrenaline is pumping through my body as my legs and arms are working together to build my momentum.…

Personal Narrative rough draft : Car accident It was early in April of 2016, sunny and beautiful, the day was sure to be full of excitement and energy as student council speeches are due and the final trimester of the year was slowly coming to an end. I woke up that morning to my mother blissfully waking me up with my light turning on and her sweet beautiful voice saying “Wake up, Joey,” I slowly rolled out of bed and stumbled into the shower trying hopelessly to escape the morning and the horrible sensations of waking up early on a Wednesday. As the warm water rushed over me I rehearsed in my head how I would present my student council speech to my teacher. Little did I know how different it would actually be that day.…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

I think the value of this behavioral observation was that it was something i never did before and it was a fun experience. For my participant observation assignment, I chose to investigate the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in San Francisco. This year’s procession was held accordingly in the city’s famous Mission district on the twelfth of March. As I have attended in years past and am familiar with the humbug of the day, I anticipated an even grander turnout in honor of the big year. I chose to examine the festivities because in my years attending the parade I have been always been skeptical of the motives of the attendees because many seem to use the event as a platform to get belligerently drunk but do not actually acknowledge the cultural component. For this reason, I chose to expand my curiosity and brave the rainy parade as a participant-observer.…

There is actually little data that is not conflicting about group process currently. One of the more popular views that pertain to social groups and psychology is that while a group by definition is a collective number of individuals, the group process is largely dominated by individuals acting as such, just in a group setting. Other viewpoints in this field contend that groups develop different dynamics uniquely different from that of an individual or an individual coexisting and adapting to a group. Among several points in group process is the overall reason of why and how a group is formed. What is the cohesive glue that bonds individuals to other individuals with common goals in mind?…
