On any given day while passing by the campus side entrance of Martin Luther King Library, the main library of San Jose State University, one can hear loud, upbeat music playing, and if one were to look for the location of the music they would notice a group of 3-10 people rhythmically moving to the music or loudly chattering. After spotting this same activity, the group always consisting of what seemed like different people yet always in the same location, I realized that it was not a coincidence, these people were a subgroup of the university that had claimed this spot as their meeting spot.

Jazz Night Concert Report The concert that I chose to attend was Jazz Night which was held at the Arnette Scott Ward performing Arts Center on the Pecos campus. I decided to show up to this performance because I have always had an appreciation for the skill and talent it requires to play an instrument. I was pleased by the concert because I heard a wide spectrum of timbre, and I was especially thrilled because I got to hear the brassy sound given off by the trumpets. I used to be a trumpet player…

Before embarking on my soundwalk, I had a few basic expectations of sounds I would encounter, mostly based on prior memories of wandering MIT’s campus. I knew what the soft, low murmurs should sound like when traversing the corridors. I knew to expect the clip-clop of hard stepping walkers in the silent tunnels, and the high pitched buzzing and whining of electrical components overhead. Outside, the wind would make soft, mid pitched whuuu and shhh noises, which would serve as background for trees that would swish or rustle, people who’s voices would carry far in the open area, and the clanking and clanking metallic sounds of the construction that constantly plagues MIT. During the soundwalk, I was constantly surprised by the amount of detailed and minute differences in sounds I was able to hear when paying attention.…

I attended the Stones River Chamber Players on February 29th. This was played in the Hilton Music Hall. When I was going in I did not know what to expect because I have never been to a music concert on the MTSU campus. There were around 60-70 people who attended this concert. Most of the individuals who attended were more than likely there for a class because more than half were students who did not understand the concept of staying off of their phone.…
