Group Logistics The group will be located in a reserved quiet classroom or counseling room in the local high school free from potential distractions. Rooms will be reserved ahead of time with appropriate school personnel to avoid possible miscommunication or overbooked classroom. The group counseling session will take place in school due to the proximity to the youth and that the school is a familiar community setting for the clients and the parents. Adolescents will already be at school therefore; transportation to the counseling session should not be an issue. Parents will arrange for transportation home after meeting during the screening and consent for treatment process. The group will meet 15 minutes after school dismissal. At the second half of the school year, therapist will screen potential members from referrals collected. Beck Depression Inventory and Life Event’s Questionnaire results, the therapist uses to compare self-reported measure to information provided by referral source. Main therapist conducts a clinical interview with individuals with low to mid levels of depression. Those with high levels of depression based from results of self reported questionnaires are referred for additional outside services. Life Events Questionnaire takes special consideration made to life stress situations that affect depression and will be modified to fit population being served. Excluded from the group, adolescents prescribed medication for depression and with severe co-morbid diagnosis that the lead therapists believe will not fit together with overall group and purpose. During the clinical interview, potential client will have opportunity to create personal goals and expectations for treatment program that therapist will use to monitor individual progress. When working with this population, it is imperative to include parental consent and support for treatment as possible sources of strength and collaboration for group members (Wilson & Cottone, 2013; Gladding, 2012). Once selected for group and both parties agree to be part of group, the therapist will provide assent and consent forms to parents and adolescents about the rules and expectations.
