Facilitation Discussion 2
Group Session 7
Initial Experience as a Group Facilitator During our first group session, the topic was based on rapport building. This was the very first group I have conducted at Kutztown and I believe that as a group we have built that rapport. We are now entering group session seven, and with each group held, we have continued to grow closer and closer as a group. Our bond has become very close within our group, and we now feel more open and comfortable sharing events or discussing feelings and emotions with each other. The goal of my first group was to build

I am a very shy and quiet person. I would be described as very introverted if we were taking a personality assessment. I was very nervous preparing for my group and also during the group session. My initial theme was rapport building and I utilized ice breakers and an emotions game that incorporated chocolate, in order to allow my group members to feel more comfortable during that very first group session. Also in my first discussion, I discussed the roles of a leader and how important it was for a leader to allow other members to feel comfortable in their own skin. I feel like I accomplished this in my group and hopefully I allowed my members to have this …show more content…
At the beginning of group, I would like to ask my group a few questions as an ice breaker. These questions are ones like, what is your favorite superhero, or tell me about a childhood memory. These questions are to help get everyone back into group mode. Once we are finished with these questions, I chose an activity called “fingerprint poem”. In this activity, each group member will receive a fingerprint and inside the lines they will describe themselves in words, phrases, or poetry. The description can be good aspects or bad aspects of personality and what they feel is their true identity. Once we are finished with the fingerprints, each member will get a chance to sit facing the group with their backs against the white board. While a member is in this position, the rest of the group members will write words or phrases on the board on how they view this person. The person will then be able to read the fingerprint they created and compare those words to the words the group members wrote on the

Edward Henry, a British police official, was on a train heading to Calcutta when he started thinking about fingerprints. The fingerprints can be seen clearly under a magnifying glass, but the pores along the ridges are what is not seen. These pores put out an oily perspiration, which is what leaves the fingerprints on almost anything a person…

Although it is expected that this retreat is only for Latinos since it is hosted by the CLAC, anyone from any race can go because although the retreat is Latino-oriented it is not Latino exclusive. There is an application that every potential participant must fill out and the participants are chosen based on their responses on the application. Because of limited space, not everyone is allowed to go but I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the participants.…

Prior to starting my program in educational counseling, I strongly believed that I wanted to work in a four year setting. However, when I took ‘Group Counseling’ and met Dr. Mosqueda, she slowly convinced me to seek out the community colleges. As the class progressed, she mentioned the opportunity of doing hours at El Camino College, in particular the First Year Experience (FYE) program, so I decided to take the offer. This preface is important because it gives a glimpse into my constant eagerness to learn more about what exactly counselors do at the community college. Internship Site…

There is a strong presence of universality as we all empathize with expressed emotions and thoughts. The support one member offered another in the form of a hug after the group ended showed me there is altruism at work in this group along with catharsis. * Group Development: We need to work on group cohesiveness. Understanding the existential factors in which some members enjoy being a part of the group but may not get caught up in the same aspects of an issue as others is important. Our group is still in the initial phase and we are trying to find our balance with structure, leadership, and…

Speaking on my experience at Sheppard Pratt as I stated before, working on an adolescent unit can be very trying on your emotions and patience. From this experience I believe I have become fully aware of my emotions and feelings. If there were ever a time I felt myself or I saw a coworker becoming irrationally emotional while working, we would offer to take a break or walk around the building and cover that coworker’s task for the time. I feel is important for a leader to know their limits and know when they need to let someone else handle the situation at hand.…

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…

In every group, structured or not, the group process has many effects on the overall group. This paper will look at the group processes of our cohort, the interactions between subgroups, and the way that it has affected the overall distance learning cohort. It will look at themes which have played out during our most recent trip to campus, namely subgroups formed, as well as the difference in anxiety levels between the foundation and concentration groups and the behaviors that were demonstrated. Next it will identify and discuss instances of here-and-now moments within the groups and consider the process commentary that we saw emerge and reflect on possible meanings for it. Finally it will depict how the groups illustrated the concepts of…

Although I feel that I did an adequate job on the group project one of the most important skills that I desperately need to improve on is learning to present in front of an audience. We had two assignments this semester that revolved around speaking in front of our class, the first being a speech by ourselves and the second being the group presentation. I am a cheerleader, so being in front of crowds does not bother me but what makes me the most nervous is when I have to speak in front of others by reading something I have written or completed. In the group presentation I was not as nervous since I was not alone in speaking to the class, but on the speech I did I was overcome with anxiety. Being able to talk in front of others is my biggest setback, but I am certain that with enough practice, patience, and preparation I will be able to calmly give a speech over any subject that I am required to do.…
