For the deliberative presentation, my group was assigned to address problem number two. My group went through all of the phases of the Phase Theory of Group Development. On our first day, we went through the orientation phase. Because our class is small we all knew each other but when we got together as a group for this assignment we tried to get to know each other and we discussed the issue of mental health in our university and what each one of us has observed. Overall that day was dedicated to understanding the topic that was assigned to us and getting to know each other. The following class we went through the second phase of the Phase Theory. We tried to further examine the issue and how we can move forward to coming up with solutions. …show more content…
For each assignment for this presentation, we talked about how the work is going to be divided. We all had personal experience with mental health services at George Mason University, therefore, we all had something to contribute. Which brings me to the third phase of the Phase Theory of Group Development. We all decided to come up with one solution for the challenge based on our experiences. Honestly, that was the best decision because we all have done different experiences and different viewpoints therefore having more than one solution was a great idea because it represented each one us. We took most of our class time to discuss and organize our group work, therefore, the actual work towards the presentation was a breeze. We also had good communication and we all a clear idea of our goal which was to come up with an effective solution to the challenge. The presentation day was the last phase of the Phase Theory of Group development. Our presentation was good, and it was praised by our classmates. They seemed to enjoy the content and our

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

My practicum has gotten very busy and interesting these last few weeks I have started vigorously working in the group setting with the clients and even making some decisions on clients transitioning into different levels of care. Working with women really has help me to acquire patients, empathy, and understanding. Most of these women have gone through very traumatic experiences in their past and they bring those issues behaviors they developed to cop into Group . Therefore learning group structure and norms have been really helpful and very important. According to Tuckman’s theory he articulated four stages of group development, which he labeled forming, storming, norming, and performing(Delucia-Waack, 2004).…

I feel as if the group project could have been done a lot better I felt as there was more of a focus on getting to know one another rather than focusing on the assessment. Currently I am not as confident on working with individuals that I don’t know so well as I was when we first started as I realized not everyone in the group had the same approach towards the task as I did especially in terms of prioritization despite this I believe I am more confident in showing leadership as Staci and Emily had other commitments I attempted to accommodate for this by contacting them and working out times when they were both free I believe this was a positive thing as normally in group assessments I have a tendency to rely on other people to make decisions like this and it was a positive experience delegating rather than receiving tasks. Overall working with Staci and Emily was fine as I have a more passive personality in group assignments it was a good learning experience for me a study has also shown that working as group positively influences and facilitates an exchange of knowledge(Shaw, Mitchell and Del Fabbro, 2015) this definitely occurred during our group work when it came to elaborating on social determinants I was able to help both Staci and Emily better understand them while Staci assisted me in learning about the stream factors overall I believe we compensated very well for each other’s gaps of knowledge . On the other side of the spectrum our fourth member Louis was difficult to work with as he contacted us the weekend before the assignment was actually ready to present and this caused a lot of stress and panic, after talking to Emily and Staci they definitely felt the same way about the situation with…

As a collaborator, my strengths were that I made sure that everything got done on time and that it was done right. My weaknesses were that I didn’t really talk to my group as much as I should have and I kind of didn’t put responsibility on anyone but myself. Group work requires talking to others, otherwise you’ll just pull all of the weight and the other group members will get a free ride. Honestly, I feel comfortable controlling the whole process of group work and have people just follow what I say so I know that things are getting done right. This is probably not good, but I don’t feel like I can trust groups because a lot of the time people don’t do what they’re supposed to.…

The demographic chosen for this counseling group is women, more specifically women who have survived incest. In leading this group, I would screen women ages twenty and older who have survived a traumatic experience with sexual abuse from a family member. Most ideally these potential members will already be involved with individual therapy, and ready to enter a group atmosphere. Due to the nature of the group it is important that members have the ego strength to explore the material discussed, and ready to handle such an intense group.…

On November 9th, Erin and I co-facilitated a group discussion around trauma-informed practice as part of our Group Facilitation assignment as second-year nursing students. The process consisted of choosing a peer-reviewed article related to trauma-informed practice, then creating a Facilitation Plan around the article and relevant course theory, and finally facilitating a group discussion. As the next step towards the development of our group facilitation skills, we were assigned to write a critical reflection about the experience of facilitating a group discussion. Through this paper I provided a summary of our group facilitation experience, explored group dynamics, what I perceived as our strengths and challenges, what I have learned from…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…

Group Dynamics is the study of groups and how the people within them interact with each other. This semester I have been both a participant and an observer in the Guide to Purpose and Success class. This allows me to assess and analyze how I function in groups and how those around me function in groups. All groups are set up in different ways, and studying this group allowed me to gain knowledge about myself and society as a whole.…
