Groupthink refers to the kind of thinking in which members of a group seek concurrence because of cohesiveness among group members whose critical thinking becomes severely impaired as a result of it. They do not seek alternatives to courses of action when presented with policy making decisions, and instead, they are more likely to engage in irrational and dehumanizing actions directed against outgroups. This phenomenon is very strong and common place, but can be very dangerous because group members are often driven by the desire to have social conformity because of social pressures exerted by members of the group. In order to maintain the cohesiveness of the group, objections raised by a group members are more often than not subjected to internal pressure in the name of achieving group consensus. In most instances, maintaining group loyalty is the catalyst that leads to group members supporting policies that might detrimental to the nation.…

In university group work was encouraged so that our professors wouldn't have to do as much marking. During my observations at my CSL there was a lot of group work. Comparing when the students were working on group work to their individual work, the results were polar opposites. The tasks for students was to write down what they knew about 5 sided figures.…

Another example of when I had to collaborate with other people is in my Registered Student Organization, Active Minds. For example, when we were creating mock awards at the end of the year, we all had to be involved in coming up with the mock awards. We created a big list of all the ideas that everyone throw out, and then we voted on the ideas that we liked the most. For example, some of the ideas that we came up with were dynamic duo, most likely to be a Mental Health Advocate, and the most involved Freshman. Active Minds puts on Walk for Life, which is an event that raises awareness for all the people that have committed suicide.…

Teachers assign group projects thinking that they will be easier with the help of friends to complete not realizing the problems they present. Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…
