Groundhog Monologue

Improved Essays
We all know Punxsutawney Phil, right? Well, that’s me, and if you didn’t know, I’m a groundhog. I live a great life here where I have my own helper to give me whatever I want. I get a lot of people every day coming to see me. I predict I’m lionized because so many people like me. One bizarre day, thousands of people come to see me. They take me to a park called Gobbler’s Knob where I am placed in an artificial heated tree stump. Rudely, they wake, grab, show me to all my fans. This will be tomorrow and I’m strongly lackadaisical about this. Tomorrow is February the second, and that's the day they all get together to see me. I’m so nervous because there so many people. I used to not like people, but now I guess, I can tolerate them. I used to live in the wild where all my friends lived. Then one day, some people saw me get all scared when I saw this black monster. That’s how Groundhog day got started. So now if I see that monster called a shadow, the world has six more weeks of winter. This is most likely false according to a scientist. …show more content…
Imminently, I’m going to be awakened to the huge crowd of all these random people. They just open the door and raise me up. Now some guy is holding me up in the air showing me to everyone. It’s really scary up here, and a lot of lights keep flashing. Now he is putting me on my stump where I’m supposed to tell if we have six more weeks of winter. It’s really cold right now and eerie. I didn’t see my shadow, so I guess it's spring now. At least it’s going to be warm now, and I get to go back home and not have to worry about anything. I hope next year comes

Groundhog Day: Are You Repeating the Same Patterns? Remember the 1960's Sonny and Cher song "I Got You, Babe?" In the wonderful movie "Groundhog Day," that song is the one that Bill Murray's character, Phil, wakes up to every morning. The first time it happens, he continues on with his day, not sensing any oddities with how his day will unfold. Each subsequent day, however, the song is his indicator that he will be repeating the same day over again.…

In the first exploration, we explored the opening monologue of the Narrator and the very first scene. This first scene is important as it can be linked to the idea of omnipresence and control of play. In this case, the control is over how social class affects the main characters. This can also relate to Greeks’ idea of Fates who decide the fate of humans for their own pleasure. The Narrator is always there and it is as if he is amused by the actions of Mickey and Edward.…
